This free online course is offered through 
 Gale Courses, which provides access to hundreds of instructor-led online courses covering everything from health and wellness to creative writing, computer programming, GED test preparation and much more.

Fall Book Sale: October 10-12


 
The Cobb County Public Library System's next semi-annual book sale will be held Friday and Saturday, October 10-11 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, October 12 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Jim R. Miller Park at 2245 Callaway Road in Marietta.   books

One of North Georgia's largest and most popular library book sales, the sale includes novels, non-fiction books, home and garden books, travel books, and much more.

Donated items for the fall book sale include books, textbooks, DVD and VHS movies and children's books. Prices range from 10 cents to $4. All profits from the sale go directly to buying more items for the 16 Cobb libraries.

Meet Actress Barbara Rosenblat


 

Meet actress Barbara Rosenblat at Switzer Library on Sunday, October 12, 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. 


 
A busy actress ("Orange is the New Black" and "Veep"), she is an award-winning narrator of more than 400 audiobooks. A reviewer commenting on the range of subjects she has voiced over said, "Barbara is to audiobooks what Meryl Streep is to film."

Wheeler Magnet School Presentation at East Marietta Library

Small Native Trees @ South Cobb

 

"Trees of Our Lives: Small Native Trees for the Landscape" is the topic for the Gardeners' Night Out program at South Cobb Regional Library on Tuesday, October 14, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Presented by the Master Gardener Volunteers of Cobb County, the October 14 program will be led by Master Gardener Dawn Hines.

Films in October @ your Cobb libraries 

The Family Movies series will be of the spooky variety through October at Switzer Library on Saturdays at 3 p.m. The screenings include October 4: Paranorman; October 11: Casper; October 18: Scooby-Doo's Greatest Mysteries; and October 25: Monster House.


 
The Spooky Comedies Film Series at Switzer Library will feature screenings each Monday in October starting at 6 p.m. The lineup is October 6: Little Shop of Horrors; October 13: Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein; October 20: Haunted Mansion, and October 27: Ghostbusters.


 
The Super Saturday Matinee series at Powder Springs Library starts at 3 p.m. The October lineup featuring classics on the theme of the connections between humans and animals includes: October 4: National Velvet; October 11: Born Free; October 18: Old Yeller; and October 25: The Yearling

Free Computer Classes


 
Cobb County Public Library System offers free introductory computer classes on the general skills of using a computer, email, and e-Readers. Registration is required and space is limited.

E-Library Resource: Zinio, Complete Digital Magazines 

 

 

Zinio is one of Cobb County Public Library System's most popular digital resources. Zinio gives library cardholders access to complete digital magazines on Internet-enabled devices. Zinio's unique technology digitally recreates a magazine page for page, including full color pictures, intuitive navigation, keyword article search and interactive elements such as audio and video.

 

Popular titles available from the Cobb libraries' Zinio collection include Family Circle, Rolling Stone, The Economist, Kiplinger's Personal Finance, Car and Driver, Parenting, Guitar Player and Outside. Dozens of popular magazines are available for a wide range of interests.

Reminder: Switzer Library is Open Sunday Afternoons

Switzer Library in Marietta is now open Sunday afternoons from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Sunday hours will be in effect through May 17, 2015, coinciding with the 2014-2015 school year for Cobb County and Marietta City public schools. The library will be closed April 5, 2015 for the Easter holiday.
