Still Time to Sign-Up for Summer Reading Fun!

There's still time to sign-up for the Cobb County Public Library System's 2014 Summer Reading Program! You're encouraged to sign-up before the end of this year's program on July 31. The library's events calendar is full of activities for the summer.
Children from birth to 5th grade should visit their local Cobb County Public Library System location to register in the Summer Reading Program and to pick up their reading log (online registration is available at http://bit.ly/1srmGGI). Adults and young adults in grades 6-12 are encouraged to submit book reviews to enter drawings for prizes. Book review forms can be picked up at any Cobb library branch or online at www.cobbcat.org/srp. All items are due back July 31!
Children and adults participating in the 2014 Summer Reading Program are eligible to receive prizes including an iPad courtesy of Cobb EMC, a Kindle Fire HD courtesy of Manning Properties, and free pizza courtesy of Stevi B's. Children also have opportunities to earn free Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Hawks tickets. Also, the Cobb Library Foundation has provided free books for children participating in the Summer Reading Program (while supplies last).

End of Summer Reading Celebration!
The library will be transformed into a spacecraft, creating a setting for family-friendly fun, music, storytelling, games, food trucks, and much more! The free event is expected to draw about 2,000 people.
The community celebration's lineup includes:
- Real Science demonstrations by Jodi Wheeler-Toppen presented by Cobb EMC
- Party music from the DJ Mello, Marquis Gabriel
- Rocking Chair Theatre by storyteller Queen Glitter
- Rockin' Robots demonstrations by students from Faith Lutheran School
- Magnets demonstrations from Lakeshore Learning
- Games, such as hula hoops and Jenga, the suspenseful block building game
- Special appearances by CAREing Paws therapy dogs

Be a Home Run Reader: Atlanta Braves Partnership with Georgia's Libraries
Cobb County students are eligible to participate in Home Run Readers, the Atlanta Braves Summer Reading Partnership with Georgia Public Library Service (GPLS), presented by SUBWAY Restaurants. Home Run Readers rewards students in grades K-12 throughout Georgia with a free Braves ticket and a free SUBWAY "Fresh Fit For Kids Meal" for reading books and completing an online activity. Designed to encourage a love of reading, as well as strengthening reading skills during the summer months, Home Run Readers was launched in 2013. All-Star Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman is the Braves' ambassador for the program's second year. The sign-up period for Home Run Readers runs through August 24. Program rules, a list of suggested titles, registration information and redemption forms are available online at www.atlantabraves.com/reading.
