This free, online course is offered through Learn4Life, which provides access to hundreds of instructor-led online courses covering everything from health and wellness to creative writing, computer programming, GED test preparation and much more.

Libraries Closed April 18

The Cobb County Public Library System will be closed April 18 for the Good Friday holiday.  Regular library hours will resume on Saturday, April 19.

Book Sale: A Success!

Thank you for your support during our recent semi-annual Book Sale held at Jim R. Miller Park. We raised almost $40,000! These funds will be used to purchase new library materials, including books, movies and e-books.

 

Mark your calendars: we hope to see you at the next semi-annual Book Sale, which will be held October 10-12, 2014 at Jim R. Miller Park.



Lives Change @ Your Library

 

The Cobb County Public Library System is celebrating the many roles your libraries play in changing lives during National Library Week.

 

National Library Week will be observed April 13-19, 2014 with the theme "Lives change @ your library�."  Sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) since 1958, National Library Week is observed each April throughout the United States by public, school, academic and special libraries.

Learn a New Language Today!

 

The Cobb County Public Library System now has access to Mango Languages, an interactive language learning platform that provides access to over 60 languages! 

 

Learning a new language with Mango Languages is free for all library patrons, and offers a fast and convenient solution for our community's increasing language-learning needs.

Cobb Libraries Ready for Spring Break

 

Movies, crafts, games and more are scheduled for libraries in the Cobb County Public Library System as students are on spring holidays. 

 

Spring break week is Monday, March 31 through Friday, April 4 for the Cobb County and Marietta school districts, as well as some area private schools.

Money Smart Week April 5-12

 

business-piggy-bank.jpg Celebrate Money Smart Week with free workshops! Observed April 5-12 by libraries throughout the United States, Money Smart Week is a public awareness campaign promoting financial education for all ages. Money Smart Week was started by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.

 

Programs at Cobb libraries include:

 

'Money Smart Kid 2014' Family Program, Saturday, April 5, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., East Cobb Library. A family story time, especially for children ages 3 and up, presented by Country Financial with a 25 book giveaway and a coin piggy bank activity. Registration is required. Teen Advisory Board Meeting followed by Money Smart Week @ Your Library, Tuesday, April 8, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., South Cobb Regional Library. Kids explore how people earn, manage and save money to buy and trade good and services. Ages 14-17. Information: (678) 398-5834.

 

Savvy Social Security Planning, Wednesday, April 9, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., at East Marietta Library. Join financial consultant Marta Shen as she discusses what baby boomers need to know to maximize retirement income. School Age Special: Money Smart Week @ Your Library, Thursday, April 10, 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., South Cobb Regional Library. Free Computer Classes at Your Library

 

Libraries throughout Cobb County offer introductory computer classes on the general skills of using a computer, email, and e-Readers. The classes are free. Registration is required and space is limited. Upcoming classes include:

 

 


Learn Budget-Friendly, Healthy Recipes with Workshop Series

 

apple-sm.jpg The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) will be presented for six consecutive Mondays at South Cobb Regional Library starting on April 7. The classes begin at 11 a.m. 

 

Designed to give participants with children on limited budgets information on providing their families healthy and delicious meals, EFNEP is a federally funded program offered by the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension and Fort Valley State University. EFNEP has been offered throughout the United States for more than 40 years.

Start Your Own Book Club

 

This program, scheduled for Monday, April 14, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the West Cobb Regional Library, will share with you how to start and run a book discussion group for adults.
