Preparing For Next Season
Welcome to the August 2015 edition of The Dive Industry Professional. August is peak season for dive stores, dive boats and local scuba instructors. So while the dive businesses that are on the front lines of the industry are in the midst of peak season, the rest of the industry is getting ready for the DEMA Show in November. To be fair to both sides of the industry, this issue has to be about promoting local diving now and preparing for the largest trade event of the year.
Local Diving is a concept that is getting the attention of the diving community. We all want to grow the industry and we know that activity stimulates growth. If you want to sell more gear, you have to promote more reasons to use gear. If you want to sell more training, then give people more reasons to learn to dive or take continuing education. The only way you are going to sell more dive travel is by having a larger pool of active divers. Boy that sounds easy! So, who's on-board to start promoting Local Diving?
Enjoy Your Diving,
Gene Muchanski Editor, The Dive Industry Professional

Editorial | Anyone Can Be A Scuba Ambassadorby Gene Muchanski, Editor The Dive Industry Professional The future of the diving industry is in the hands of those divers who are hyper active in the recreation and know how to naturally motivate people to go diving with them. They are at the center of their own circle of influence and local diving activity revolves around them. At DIVE LOCAL we call these people Ambassadors. They are also referred to as Opinion Leaders or Scuba Evangelists. They are the ones who get people excited about scuba diving and the industry needs more people like them. Read more |

DIVE LOCAL - The "White Paper"
by Gene Muchanski
Executive Director, Dive Industry Foundation
DIVE LOCAL is a community effort to reach the general public to promote snorkeling and scuba diving as an exciting recreation. Our Mission is to show people how to: 1) Learn to dive. 2) Buy their diving equipment. 3) Go Diving. 4) Stay active in the recreation. Our Goal is to support and promote; 1) Local Dive Stores. 2) Local Dive Operators. 3) Local Dive Clubs. 4) Local Diving Instructors. DIVE LOCAL uses National Magazine coverage, Regional Dive Shows and Regional Summit Conferences in addition to websites, newsletters, blogs, electronic mail, press releases and social media networks to promote local diving shows & events and local diving businesses.
Our White Paper, a work in progress, defines this international community effort and how everyone can become involved to help grow the industry. Think of DIVE LOCAL as a Pot Luck Dinner. Everyone is invited to participate which means that everyone must bring something to the table. The goal is to promote all of the Dive Stores, Dive Boats, Dive Clubs and Scuba Instructors by enlisting the support of their major manufactures, training agencies, travel wholesalers & resort destinations, and service providers specializing in diving equipment and services. DIVE LOCAL is also counting on sponsorship from Tourism Boards, Convention and Visitors Bureaus and Local Chambers of Commerce. Five Major Sponsors have already stepped up to the plate. Read our White Paper to see how you can support this community effort and help grow the industry.
DIVE LOCAL has created a social media facebook page to promote local diving and local diving events. Like us on facebook at www.facebook.com/divelocal Our Wordpress Blog website is used as a draft document to define the DIVE LOCAL organization as we get feedback from the local dive communities worldwide. Sign up for our blog at www.divelocal.wordpress.com Our Super Website at www.divelocal.org will be the vehicle we use to promote diving to the general public.
