Hey There Safety Stuff Subscriber,

I hope you're having a refreshing spring.

During my last trip earlier this month I had a fun-filled three days in Indianapolis. I spoke at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA). A special Thank you everyone who attended my "Just Imagine" all-day seminar. Did we have a good time or what! Thank you too Bud for hiring me. I hope we get to work together again.

In two weeks I'm going to Dubai! I'll be speaking at a Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) convention. It'll be my first visit to the country. If you've been there, I'd appreciate any tips you could give me.

SAFETY STUFF 15th ANNIVERSARY PARODY SAFETY SONG WINNER!

Congratulations Mark Hadfield from Nabors Drilling! You sent in the winning safety parody song lyrics. Mark parodied the song "All About That Bass" by Meghan Trainer.

If you haven't heard the song, or seen the video here's a link to it http://ow.ly/MhaBW . (I'm considering doing a parody video using Mark's lyrics. I'll keep you posted if I do.) Also, thank you everyone who sent me lyrics. It was fun going through them all.

All About Being Safe

Lyrics by Mark Hadfield

(Based on "All About That Bass" by Meghan Trainer)

(Chorus)

Because you know I'm all bout being safe,

being safe, no trouble

I'm all bout being safe,

being safe, no trouble

I'm all bout being safe,

'Bout being safe, no trouble

I'm all bout being safe,

being safe

Safe, safe, safe, safe

[Verse 1:]

Yeah it's pretty clear, I see it in the news

But workers can choose, which rules their going to follow

'Cause they got the attitude, that it don't really matter

We try to put rules, in all the right places

We see the magazines, we put the posters up

They don't believe it's real

Come on now, make the hurting stop

If you got any values,  just raise 'em up

'Cause everyday you come to working

Let's put safety at the top

[Pre-Chorus:]

Yeah, my employer he told me don't worry about your eyes

He says, safety glasses will protect you only if you're wise

You know you won't slip or trip, with the right footwear,

 So, if that's what's you're into

Then go ahead and give it a try

Chorus

Verse 2

I'm bringing safety back

Go ahead and tell all them silly workers that Hey

No, I ain't playing

I know you think you're safe,

But I'm here to tell you,

Everyone of you is needed from the bottom to the top

Pre-Chorus

Yeah, my employer he told me don't worry about your eyes

He says, safety glasses protect you but only if you're wise

You know you won't slip or trip, with the right footwear,

So, if that's what you're into

Then go ahead and give it a try

Chorus x3

GONE CAUSE THEY HAD TO GO

The famed Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe, who invented an indoor pressure flow toilet, died in 1601 from a terrible twist of fate. During dinner one night, having consumed a large amount of alcohol, he politely refused to leave the table to empty his bladder. By the time Brahe made it to the loo, his overfull bladder had burst and killed him.

JUST A COPYEDITOR'S ERROR

"An earlier version of this story incorrectly described Buffington's special support hose as 'mercury lined.' The hose are 'mercury-gauged,' meaning that barometric mercury is used to measure the compression of the hose. They are not mercury-lined, which would, of course, make them poisonous." --The Sunday Paper (Atlanta, Georgia)

"A story in our Wednesday edition about forging for edible mushrooms contained a photo of Amanita muscaria, which is a poisonous and hallucinogenic mushroom. It was a copyeditor's error." --Portland (Maine) Press Herald

GAINED A LOT OF VALUABLE INSIGHT

Hey Richard,

It was a pleasure meeting you and spending a little time with you at the safety summit. I wanted to thank you so much for doing an outstanding job last week. I received a lot of positive feedback on your presentations and I know our membership gained a lot of valuable insight from you --- you also carried creditability with everyone.

Thanks again for a great-great job.

CHECK THIS OUT!

In every issue I'll include at least one link to a site or video that is humorous, unusual, powerful or that could help you Make Safety Fun! So, let me know if you find (or have created) anything that I might be able to include in this section.

Here's a link to Atlantic Training's "Funny Office Ergonomic Video." It's a bit corny, but I enjoyed watching it and I've got to give kudos to the "rap actors."

All About You:

The Safety Pro and the 'Butterfly Effect'

A butterfly flaps its wings, creating a small current that weeks later will change weather conditions many miles away - enough to alter the path of a hurricane.

You've probably heard of this phenomenon. As entertainment, it has been the theme of science-fiction books and movies. Scientists differ in opinion about the "butterfly effect," but I like the concept and it has inspired me at times to do my best even when I'm speaking to a small, tired audience.
