We love our yards. If you're a pet owner, you might very well consider some issues that may affect your pet. - Not Enough Shade: Like humans, dogs and cats need a spot out of the sun. If your pet stays outdoors for extended periods, create a welcoming spot under a tree or near a large shrub. - Mulch: Puppies are particularly prone to munching on mulch. This can be especially problematic if your mulch is tinted. Those vibrant hues of red or brown may contain harmful dyes. It's a good idea to read the label of contents. - Ticks: To keep a lid on ticks, treat your lawn with nematodes. These tiny, wormlike bugs kill many, if not all fleas and ticks that come into contact with the soil and pose no risk to pets. ![]() Pesticides: It's important to keep your pets off the lawn for 24 hours or longer after any pesticide application. - Certain Plants: One never knows what plant a dog may decide to munch on. Oleanders, autumn crocus, and azaleas are a few plants that can adversely affect your pet. - The Driveway: Gravel and asphalt driveways pose their own issues. Gravel can get lodged between a large dog's paw pads. An asphalt driveway can burn a dog's pads. - Being alert to issues that affect our pets will keep them safe. --RSIR |
