A common summertime squawk is: "There’s nothing to do!" Our kids say it. Sometimes, we say it ourselves. This notion is simply not true! - In fact, a recent survey by WalletHub ranked Cincinnati as the third best place to enjoy a ‘Staycation’ – defined as a vacation spent at or near home. Much of WalletHub’s criteria related to the availability of outdoor activities such as public golf courses, swimming pools, and tennis courts. The chart below shows how Cincinnati compares with other cities in those categories. ![]() - Of course, we are able to add King’s Island, The Beach, Coney Island, and Great Wolf Lodge into that list of fun. However, there are plenty of other venues for family and or adult fun. For instance, did you know that there are two excellent climbing walls in this area? Climb Time of Blue Ash and RockQuest in Sharonville provide an opportunity to hone climbing skills through instruction and practice. - Ever since the Cincinnati Roller Girls came to town, skating has seen more enthusiasts at the Florence Fundome, the Beechmont Rollarena, and the Fun Factory in Norwood. Ice skaters enjoy their fun at SportsPlus and Northland Ice Center. - Bicyclists are especially privileged to have the the longest paved bike trail in the USA. The Little Miami Scenic Trail is a 76 mile, largely wooded corridor. When complete, the Ohio River Trail will continue this route all the way to downtown. - Our region also provides an excellent selection of outdoor music. Riverbend garners the most press, there is so much more and of such a variety. Both Washington Park and Fountain Square present concerts throughout the summer. In addition, the upcoming Bunbury Festival is a huge event that attracts regional millennials. - A brand new, 1st annual music festival, operating under the name BuckleUP, begins this summer. It rolls into town after Bunburry and features hugely popular names like Allison Krauss and Union Station, Willie Nelson, Emmy Lou Harris, and Old Crow Medicine Show. If you listen to WNKU, you will love this event. - Classical music fans appreciate the CSO outdoor performances throughout the summer. Especially popular is Lumenocity; August 1-3. The Kentucky Symphony Orchestra (KSO) has their annual event at Devou Park coming up on July 12. - For adults, the former River Downs presents the beauty and power of horse racing. Now called Belterra Park Gaming and Entertainment, it has added wagering games and a music venue to traditional horse race gambling. So we think you will agree, there's plenty to do here in the summertime!-------RSIR |
