Since becoming incorporated as a City in 1961, Blue Ash has blossomed into one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Greater Cincinnati. National publications have noticed, identifying the City as one of the 50 best places in America to raise your family. Forbes Small Business magazine also identified Blue Ash as being one of the 100 best places to live and launch a small business. There are over 2,000 business in Blue Ash, including Belcan, Ethicon Endo-Surgery, F+W Media, The J. Peterman Company, Sunny Delight Beverages, Lighting Systems, Inc., and Procter & Gamble. In fact, the City’s population of just over 12,000 swells to 55,000 as employees commute to their respective places of employment.
History. - The name comes from the many Ash (Fraxinus quadrangulata) trees used to build Carpenter’s Run Baptist Church in 1797. There are descendants of early settlers that still live in the area today. One of the very earliest settlers was a fellow named John Conklin. - When many non-residents think of this area, they think of the Blue Ash Airport. Perhaps the airport exemplifies the extraordinary changes experienced by this community. Identified as one of the highest points of elevation in Hamilton County, 1,200 acres were purchased in 1921 for an airport. The original airport was named Grisard field after Lt. John K. Grisard, the only Cincinnati pilot killed in WW1. - One year later, the airport was acquired by Parks & Hugh Watson. Hugh was a barnstormer and aviation pioneer. The airport was sold again in 1955 to the City of Cincinnati with the idea of this becoming the international airport that Greater Cincinnati Northern Kentucky airport is today. - The airport continues to inspire Blue Ash. The remaining 228 acres of the original airport is now a park (Summit Park). There are plans afoot for major developments, including expanded trails that weave through woodlands, wetlands, and meadow areas, a community garden, water sculpture, dog park, farmer’s market, performing arts venue, and restaurants. - A significant attraction of this community is the Sycamore school district, ranked 14th in Ohio and 403rd nationwide. The STEM rank (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math) is 141st among schools across the nation. University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College, (formerly Raymond Walters College) is a highly rated 2 year college offering 60 professional degrees. After so much mental exertion, the very popular Blue Ash YMCA offers plenty of programs for active residents both young and old. - Restaurants in this community attract patrons from around the area. Some of the more popular are Parkers Blue Ash Tavern, Café Mediterranean, Slatts, Brown Dog Café, Sammy’s, and Blue Ash Chili, among many others. In addition, Pipkins Fruit & Vegetable Market offers quality produce and a vast selection of flowers in the warm months. Exciting News For Blue Ash!
