A surprising number of area residents are completely unaware of one of the most livable neighborhoods in the region. We're talking about a charming section of Covington near the confluence of the Ohio and Licking Rivers. Known as the Historic Licking Riverside Neighborhood, this little community has attracted the attention of the American Planning Association (APA) in a very big way. They have designated this as one of the 10 Great Neighborhoods in America. You can see all ten here. - Notable aspects mentioned by the APA include the outstanding collection of 19th Century architecture, scenic city and river views, as well as the community action of residents. This activism paid off when residents thwarted a plan to redevelop parts of the district into a riverfront commercial district. Residents and planners continue to maintain the integrity of this special neighborhood. - Riverside Drive marks the northern boundary of this district. Featuring riverfront homes and historic George Rogers Clark Park, this stretch is popular with photographers documenting the beauty of the riverfront. The visionary Licking River Greenway Plan foresees connecting this riverside walk with a hiking/biking trail along the Licking River that will extend southwards to I-275. You can enjoy one completed portion of this trail that extends from Holmes High School to 9th street, near Randolph Park. - The Western boundary can be identified by The Ascent at Roebling Bridge Condominiums and Roebling Point; which harbors an excellent collection of popular restaurants as well as the location of the popular farmer's market. - ![]() View from Riverside Drive near George Rodgers Clark Park - We are currently promoting two homes in this gorgeous, highly walkable area. One home is at 225 East 2nd. The other is a home is at 404 East 2nd, a home that is exceptional by any standard. This home is not in the MLS. These two homes are enhanced by being located on a tree lined street. Please click on each address for additional information. - The home at 404 East 2nd, also known as the Laidley House, was built in 1865 and has been occupied by just two families since being built. The Laidley House is named after Frederick Alexander Laidley, a hugely successful entrepreneur and steamboat magnate. The home is opposite the Carneal House, so named for Thomas Carneal, one of the founders of the city of Covington and for whom the home was built. Please note that the home at 404 East 2nd Street is not yet listed in the MLS. For more information on either of these homes, you may contact Julie Boudousquie at 859.462.2883.. |
