There are some cities turn their entire town into a Currier and Ives Christmas display. Leavenworth, Washington, Durango, Colorado, and Woodstock, Vermont come to mind. These smaller towns transform themselves into a picture perfect Christmas Snow Globe. - Leavenworth, a small city in center of Washington State, completely transforms itself into a Christmas postcard. Citizens dress in costume, carolling, roasting chestnuts, riding in horse-drawn sleighs. It's quite magical. They even have a Nutcracker Museum which contains over 5,000 nutcrackers, including a bronze Roman nutcracker estimated at to be from the time of Christ. - Another Christmas Diarama is Durango. This town benefits from their famous narrow gauge train. They cleverly turn this into a Polar Express – which children hop onto for a 30 minute trip to the 'North Pole' where Santa bestows upon each child a little bell. All those little bells must make for a lovely symphony on the train ride back to Durango, right? - Geographically closer is Woodstock, Vermont. Voted the 'Prettiest Small Town In America', Woodstock uses its picture perfect setting as a canvas to paint a most idyllic Christmas picture, perhaps not unlike what we all imagined in our childhood fantasy. Here's an HGTV video showing the festivities, which begin on the second weekend of every December. The ongoing theatrical spectacle that includes holiday shows, music, horse and carriage rides - even a medieval banquet. - Here in Greater Cincinnati, we have a variety of holiday spectacles to share with family and friends. The list below features some of the more popular and, with the exception of the Hocking Valley Polar Express Train, are all within a 30 minute drive. You can click on the event name for additional information. (Click event name for more info.) -
However you celebrate the Holiday season this year, we sincerely wish it brings you happy memories you can treasure for a lifetime. -RSIR |
