Northside is one of our area’s most dynamic communities. There is a palpable level of energy among resident and it's directed at transforming the neighborhood into a ‘destination area’. One hundred and fifty years ago, this neighborhood attracted many prominent citizens who built a number of exquisite homes. After a period of decline in the early part of the 1900’s, the area began attracting home buyers who appreciated the lovely architecture (and low cost) of these original homes. Perhaps it is because these new residents had a shared vision of revitalizing their own home, they came together to promote the larger community with a contagious enthusiasm. - The Northside Community Council has over 200 members, making it one of the largest and most active in the city. The Northside Business Association and the recently formed Cincinnati Northside Community Urban Redevelopment Corporation work to revitalize this neighborhood. - This infusion of energy has resulted in a redevelopment effort that continues to gain momentum. Many unique retail businesses and excellent restaurants have gravitated to Northside. BOCA, one of this city’s most celebrated restaurants, began in Northside. Popular restaurants & gathering places in Northside today include: Barrio Tequileria, Boswell’s Alley, Chameleon, Django Western Taco, Kitchen Factory, Ko Sho Japanese Restaurant, Melt, Northside Tavern, and Tacocracy Vegetarian & Vegan restaurant. - Two establishments seem to have created a buzz that goes far beyond the neighborhood. The Comet restaurant & bar attracts big crowds who enjoy a wide variety of live music. Shake It Records attracts audiophiles with extensive catalog of CD's and vinyl. - Having renovated a large proportion of lovely homes, the community seems to have a vision for renovating the entire neighborhood. For example, the American Can Company, (photo below right) a manufacturer, was completely refurbished into contemporary, energy efficient loft space. Next is the Myron Johnson Lumber yards, comprising 3 acres on the corner of Hamilton and Blue Rock. This project will be a mix of retail and possibly up to 140 apartments, (photo below left). ![]() As might be expected, this urban village is rated 'Very Walkable' by Walkscore.com. Shopping, lunch or dinner, fresh produce, hardware, or coffee are all within walking distance. Nearby parks give the community some 'elbow room'. LaBoiteaux Woods and Nature Center offer 2 miles of wooded hiking. Andrew Jergens Park is a favorite of neighborhood children. This was the site of Andrew Jergens' magnificent home, one of four phenomenal homes at "Millionaire's Corner". Upon his death the home was torn down and replaced with a park. - If you've ever considered purchasing a home in this vibrant, eclectic neighborhood, Tim Hinde has a wonderful home that is available to purchase right now on Williamson Place. You can see it here.--- -RSIR
