MEET ADI STAFF
We can't wait to meet you in person, if we haven't already, in Denver! Besides our founder and president, Bill Owens, who pioneered this organization and community in 1993, most of you know our intrepid Conference Director, Leah Hutchinson. You'll likely see her everywhere at once in Denver, orchestrating the success of (and making magic happen behind the scenes) at another ADI Conference.
As we have a few new (and longtime) ADI staff, we wanted to introduce you to "who's who". We'll see you in Denver!
DREW FAULKNER, Judging Director
As ADI's Judging Director, Drew began working with ADI nine years ago doing a bit of everything: he filled the positions of gopher, Photography Editor of Distiller Magazine and Curriculum Coordinator for Hands-on Workshops.
For the last five years, Drew has overseen ADI's Judging of Artisan American Spirits. This experience has brought him close to the next generation of entrepreneur/distillers and required working relationships with top spirits experts internationally. Drew has an unparalleled knowledge of which artisan distilleries are producing various types and brands of spirits in which states.
His stories about distilled spirits have appeared in Whisky Magazine France, Modern Distillery Age and The Tasting Panel, and he is a award-winning photographer with his work appearing in numerous international publications and galleries.
NANCY FRALEY, Director of Research
Nancy Fraley has been the Director of Research at ADI for 4 years, teaching classes on Rum & Whiskey Blending and Sensory Analysis. She also runs a firm called Nosing Services, where she works as an international consultant, whiskey & rum blender, and sensory analyst.
Prior to Nosing Services & ADI, she worked at Alambic Inc (Germain-Robin distillery). She loves to learn, and holds a masters degree with a focus in Tibetan Buddhism from Harvard University, and a juris doctor degree (maritime & admiralty law) from the University of San Francisco School of Law.
When Nancy isn't blending or nosing interesting distillates, she is an avid hiker, and enjoys playing electric bass and collecting drums & percussion from around the world. She tried her first whiskey at her father's wedding at the tender age of six, and has been using her nose ever since.
Kim Harrison, Membership & Marketing Director
I have been with ADI since December as Membership Director. I've been busy supporting the conference, but in April I look forward to creating value for our members. I am a data geek who loves finding solutions, but also love fine food and spirits, and consider myself lucky to work with ADI, combining both of my passions.
While I am busy with my three children and husband, I love to travel, and a highlight was a trip to Zambia for a Safari.
For the last seven years, I have had my own marketing consulting company, helping my clients grow their businesses. Prior to that, I was with Acxiom for thirteen years as a senior sales executive creating and delivering analytic, data, and direct marketing solutions in a multi-million dollar territory.
Virginia Miller, Communications & Media Director
Starting part time in January, I handle ADI's communications (social media, newsletter, event media), with a special understanding being media myself. In the midst of 16 years in HR management, I started my own food/drink/travel site, The Perfect Spot, just over 5 years ago. Not long thereafter, I began working at the San Francisco Guardian newspaper with a weekly column for over 4 years, eventually becoming their head food/drink writer, and I freelance numerous print and online publications, from Zagat to Citysearch.
Spirits and cocktails quickly became a passion over the past decade. Traveling the world (with my husband whenever possible) - sometimes a few trips in a month - I've explored (and written about) distilleries, wineries, restaurants and cocktail bars in Scotland, Ireland, Mexico (Tequila & Oaxaca), London, Peru, France, Italy, Southeast Asia, numerous other countries and regions of the US. An amateur cocktailian, I'm ever entertaining with classic & experimental cocktails, regularly holding spirits tastings at home. You'll also find me obsessed with music of all styles, a film buff, and an avid reader.
LISA WALLACE, Financial Director
I took on ADI as a bookkeeping client in Fall 2012 handling all aspects of ADI's accounting and finances. In addition to ADI, I have a dozen or so other clients, most of them are service based industries, and am enjoying the people I work with at ADI.
I own a contracting business with my husband and we have two teenagers so that keeps us quite busy. We love to spend much of our summers camping and jet skiing.

WHERE to EAT & DRINK
While in DENVER
- Virginia Miller
 | | Pheasant sausage with milk stout Dijon cream at Biker Jim's |
As ADI's Media Director, I'm a food and drink critic in my home city of San Francisco and write about cities/regions internationally. I've covered Denver a few times in the past couple years, impressed with the growth of its dining and drink scene from even five years ago.
I will be writing more articles covering new locations during this visit with ADI, but have numerous recommendations here for your "off time" from the conference, like: | | Retro romance in the basement of Green Russell |
 | Dine around Asia with small plates at multi-floored, funky, fun (with a view) Linger |
