Greetings!
Steve Roth
Steve Roth

We have a lot to share with you in this month's issue of L.A. Connect.

First, tickets are now on sale for our 49th annual PRSA-LA PRisms Awards Show, the biggest night of the year for the public relations profession in Greater Los Angeles. We're also pleased to announce our 2013 PRism Special Honorees, listed below. The final deadline for submitting PRism entries is Monday, September 2.

We have more great programming coming up in September, including an exciting food PR program and the latest installment in our "At Breakfast With..." series.  Also, September 6 is the deadline for applying for the Don Perkins Community Service Grant for LA area non-profits.

Finally, I'd like to thank and congratulate Rita Tateel and everyone else who contributed to our very successful August sports PR event at Dodger Stadium.

Without the efforts of our chapter's many volunteers and event sponsors, we wouldn't have the resources to pull off these kinds of great functions, month after month.

Thank you for your ongoing involvement and I hope to see you at an upcoming PRSA-LA event!

Sincerely,

Steve Roth, PRSA-LA President
Principal, OutThink Partners

Application Deadline Approaching!

"Tell a Local Non-Profit Organization About the Don Perkins Community Service Grant"

Looking for a way to contribute professionally and financially to a California-based non-profit organization?  Forward this information to your favorite non-profit and you could help them secure a $10,000 grant to fund a public relations campaign to promote their important work.

For more than 20 years, PRSA-LA has awarded the Don Perkins Community Service Grant to a qualifying Southern California non-profit organization with a demonstrated need for public relations support to advance its mission.

This community service fund was created by an endowment from the late Don Perkins, a long-time Los Angeles public relations practitioner and journalist.

The application process is simple. First, view the Overview and Eligibility Guidelines, which include a link to the easy-to-use online application form. Although the application itself is not complex, it does require that a PR professional be associated with and guide the charity seeking the grant.

Judges will be looking for an understanding of public relations and an articulated PR strategy in each application, which is where PRSA-LA members play an important role in this opportunity. The endowment requires that either a PRSA-LA member in good standing, or a counseling firm or agency that has at least one member in PRSA, assist in managing the non-profit's public relations program made possible by the grant.

Non-profit organizations providing services or programs (except those of an exclusively religious nature such as churches and religious institutions) located throughout PRSA-LA's chapter area are welcome to apply. This includes organizations registered as a 501(c)3 in the State of California that reside in these areas: Los Angeles County, Santa Barbara County, Ventura County and Kern County.

The deadline to apply is Friday, September 6, 2013. The winning charity will be presented a check for $10,000 at the PRism Awards Show on Wednesday, November 6, in the Crystal Ballroom at the beautiful Beverly Hills Hotel.

Questions? Contact PRSA-LA Board Member and Committee Chairperson Kristin Wood at kristin@prsala.org or by calling (818) 627-4860.
