A Message from the Editor
Hi, everyone!

The phrase "April showers bring May flowers" generally seems to be true, especially given all of the rain that accompanied the last week of April.

Now, with the April showers (hopefully) all out of the way, it is time for May flowers to come!

Joy Lutheran Church in Prescott, WI is having their annual plant sale Saturday and Sunday, May 14 and 15 starting at 9 am. Part of the proceeds from the sale are donated to our affiliate, and some of the leftover plants are given to our homeowners for use in their gardens.

Joy Lutheran, which is at 1453 St. Croix St., Prescott, WI, has been a great partner of our affiliate in the past, and we are looking forward to all of the May flowers they will be bringing!

Have a great day,
Kayla

PS - Additional information about Joy Lutheran can be found on their website here.
Recycling Update
Effective immediately, our ReStores will no longer be accepting e-waste items, such as TVs, computers, printers, DVD/VCR players, fax machines, or microwaves.

However, they will still be taking white waste appliances (refrigerators, dehumidifiers, room air conditioners, water softeners, water heaters, and dishwashers) for a recycling fee.

E-waste items can be recycled at Best Buy, and additional recycling information can be found here.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Master Gardeners are Helping Us Grow
The St. Croix Valley Master Gardeners Association (MGA) has generously gifted our affiliate a grant to partner with Westside Elementary School and the UW - River Falls in helping to grow our Eco Village community gardens.

Through this grant, materials will be purchased to do an informational session on sustainability and gardening with twenty students elementary students ranging in age from five to nine. The students will learn about sustainability, community service, environmental stewardship, and what it means to be a good citizen. After the session, the students will then plant and tend to herbs at their school.

Once these plants have matured, they will be transplanted to the Eco Village community gardens, where Sonja Maki from the UW - River Falls will work with the homeowners on how to grow and care for gardens (an additional project funded through a grant from Allina Health).

The MGA is able to provide such generous grants through proceeds generated by their annual plant sale. This year's plant sale is Saturday, June 4 from 9 am - 1 pm in the Octagon House at 1004 3rd St, Hudson, WI 54016.

For more information about the plant sale or the MGA in general, please feel free to visit their website here.
Staff Update
Brenda Berner has been our New Richmond ReStore assistant manager since October 2013. If you've stopped by the store, you've probably seen her around helping customers, working with volunteers, or organizing the store. However, Brenda has decided to retire and take the summer off so that she can work on her home and spend time with her niece who will be home from college.

Brenda came to our affiliate roughly two and a half years ago after her father, a carpenter, passed away. Brenda wanted to do something to continue to build homes, so she thought Habitat would be the perfect fit. While most of her time was dedicated to the ReStore, she was able to build one of the homes when she came out to the construction site for the 2015 Women's Build. She really enjoyed helping and seeing how the homes are built by the volunteers. "It is a wonderful thing seeing a group of women learning new skills," said Brenda.

We will all miss Brenda's core of altruism, easygoing nature, and keen sense of organization and order, which made her a perfect fit for the ReStore. She said that leaving is bittersweet, and she will miss all of the ReStore's loyal customers. She had a lot of fun helping them find great deals. Additionally, she would like to thank Andy for the opportunity, and she has learned a lot about St. Croix Valley Habitat and how it operates.

Please join us in wishing Brenda the best of luck and happiness as she enjoys retirement.

Employment Opportunities
Our affiliate is on the lookout for two motivated, energetic people to fill our two AmeriCorps VISTA positions: Resource Development and Outreach and Faith Relations.

The positions are each one-year commitments and are scheduled to start on June 24. Applications and specific information about each position can be found by clicking on the position title above.

Have questions about the AmeriCorps program? Contact Kayla by email or at 715-425-5623.
Roberts is Starting to Rock and Roll
The former New Richmond ReStore is all cleared and cleaned out, which can only mean one thing: the Roberts ReStore is on its way!

It took our dedicated New Richmond ReStore staff and volunteers about ten days to clear out the previous store and move all of the inventory into our new space at 747 Hwy 65, Roberts, WI. Now comes the detailed processes of setting up the new place!

A soft opening for the Roberts ReStore is scheduled for Saturday, May 21 with a grand opening tentatively scheduled for sometime in June (with more details to be released later).

The Roberts ReStore hours, after its opening on May 21, will be Tuesday - Friday, 10 am - 6 pm; Saturday - Sunday, 10 am - 3 pm; and closed on Mondays.

Additionally, please note that our River Falls ReStore is up and running and will remain in its current location, so continue to shop, shop, shop there!
