Happy New Year!

We were successful in completing 7 homes in 2013. Thank you for all of your support in 2013! We are hoping for an even more successful and engaged 2014!

St. Croix Valley Habitat for Humanity has already helped 85 adults and 177 children within our 57 quality homes in local cities throughout the St. Croix and Pierce Counties and also supported construction of 40 homes internationally.

Thank you, community, volunteers, and family partners, for all the support in the past year. You have made building safe, decent, affordable homes a reality in our community.

Staff of the Month
Debbie Murtha-Office Manager

Debbie Murtha has worked as SCVHFH's full-time Office Coordinator since 2008. To Habitat's good fortune, Debbie answered the call for an office expert who can juggle a lot of tasks and wear many hats. She grew up in River Falls, attended UW-River Falls and worked 12 years managing a New Richmond builder's office. Besides managing a retail store earlier in her career, Debbie taught school for a year in the Academy building, Habitat's former office location. She and husband Mike have been married 36+ years and have three, adult children. Debbie works hard doing it all, from processing homeowner payments and organizing volunteers to answering phones and helping applicants.

Volunteer of the Month
Fred Benson

Fred Benson is the stepfather of Linnann Pearson, who is the new owner of house 7 of the River Falls Eco-Village. Fred was active in helping build Linnann's home (2nd Thrivent Financial home).

He began volunteering in March of 2013 and has over 150 hours for the year. While volunteering, he makes a point to greet others he hasn't yet met and makes them feel welcomed. He tackles every task needed, and he is humble about his abilities. He is a blessing to have at the Eco-Village site. He plans to continue to volunteer in 2014 but is taking a well-deserved break due to the cold weather.

Fred owned the hardware store in River Falls for many years. The opportunity to sell came at the right time and he retired. He still enjoys hardware stores and is known to stop in at the River Falls hardware store, grab a bag of popcorn, and walk the aisles while visiting staff.
