Building Decent, Affordable Homes
Thank You!

   It is the time of year that many of us reflect and look back a bit more than usual at the many reasons to be thankful. I have so many reasons to be thankful in my personal life and as the new leader at St. Croix Valley Habitat for Humanity, but I have so much more to be grateful for. Habitat has a mission for "a world where everyone has a decent place to live". We are fulfilling that mission, home by home, and it could not be done without the help we receive from the community.

   In the past year the number of volunteers working on a Habitat homes, in our ReStore in New Richmond, or in our office in River Falls has increased significantly. I am thankful to those volunteers who help us get our job done. I am also thankful for the Board of Directors who have devoted many volunteer hours in guiding and nurturing Habitat to accomplish and increase the capacity of our mission. Our dedicated and committed staff who "pull it all together "also deserve great thanks.

   This organization has been built over many years with deep roots in the St. Croix Valley communities. The former staff and board members deserve to be honored for their work.

  Since the inception of St. Croix Valley Habitat in 1995 we have built homes in Spring Valley, Ellsworth, Prescott, Elmwood, Hammond, Hudson, Baldwin, Woodville, New Richmond, Glenwood City, and River Falls. Thank you to all of those communities for welcoming Habitat.

   Along with the volunteers, board, and staff we have a community of congregations, vendors, and contributors to be thankful for. A stream of donations and many in-kind gifts provide the resources to build homes, one by one.  Thank you to our vendors, partners, congregations, and contributors.

   The mission of Habitat could not be served without the beautiful and wonderful families we partner with to make their lives better with a safe, affordable, decent home they can call their own. I am thankful for our families because ultimately, that's what we, at Habitat, are all about.

In addition to facilitating stormwater management, CalStar's donation of permeable pavers to the St. Croix Eco Village community will divert 56 tons of post-industrial waste from landfill, save 27 Million BTU of manufacturing energy over conventional pavers and eliminate 20 tons of CO2 emissions, an amount equivalent to taking 3.6 cars off the road for a year.

* Dow Building Solutions

A national partner of Habitat for Humanity, Dow provides a complete package of insulation and air sealing technologies, essential for a high performance building envelope. Styrofoam rigid foam board insulation; Weathermate vapor barriers and sill sealants; and Great Stuff Pro foam and Froth Pack spray foam systems all work together to eliminate air infiltration and increase insulation, maximizing energy efficiency and occupant comfort.

MAMAC is providing small devices that make huge changes in the efficiency of these homes - and the families who live in them

.* Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity

A long standing partner of Habitat for Humanity, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has given over $160 million over 7 years to build homes and hope in communities across the globe. To date, more than 480,000 volunteers have donated more than three million hours to construct and rehabilitate 2,700  homes worldwide, including 10 right here in the St. Croix Valley. Thrivent continues its support of Habitat, funding the construction of one home in the Eco Village.

Even the manufacturing processes for producing Uponor PEX-a tubing conserves energy through minimizing waste.

Committed to creating a more just and sustainable society, WestCAP has long partnered with Habitat to essential down-payment assistance, further reducing the barriers to home ownership for partner families. WestCAP is also bringing their extensive experience as a leader in the weatherization and energy efficiency industry to the project, nurturing relationships and creating programming around the Eco Village model.
