A Message from Superintendent Micheal French
|
Terrell Proud, Tiger Strong is much more than just a motto. It is a feeling that lives inside of each and every person in this community. By truly being Terrell Proud and Tiger Strong, the hopes, dreams and aspirations of our young people and community will come true.
Terrell Proud are the teachers, who like Cynthia Candler, Mike Melugin, Lela Hogan, and many more, have worked as educators for so many years that now their own students are educators in our schools. One former student commented on Facebook saying, "Ms. Candler changed my life. I wouldn't be the success I am without her in my life. I love that she invests in individuals and their true identity not just a classroom. She is such an important person in this world!" It's teachers, like her, who touch the lives of our students every single day.
Tiger Strong are the fans who show up every Friday night at Memorial Stadium to cheer on our football team, our band, our Tigerettes, and all the other students who work tirelessly to prepare for football season. The fans like Mr. Neroes, who for years has stood on the sideline with a smile across his face, cheering on the Tigers through wins and losses. It's the young fans who line the rails at Memorial Stadium with pom-poms and tiny megaphones in hand, or stand on the bleachers to see over the people in front of them. And who sometimes, by the fourth quarter, are so worn out they rest their heads in the lap of their mom or dad because it's after their bedtime, and they have cheered so hard.

TISD Students' Artwork Featured at Dallas Airport
Next time you are traveling through Dallas Love Field Airport, stop to admire the original artwork of TISD students Colton Bishop, April Leos, Grayce Keto, Luis Cervantes, Alberto Ibarra Jr., Kaylie Johnson, Kaitlyn Nieto, Lauren Prewitt, Briana Sosa and Kolton Harrelson. These 10 students were selected to showcase artwork at Dallas Love Field Airport as part of the Texas Challenge of the International Aviation Art Contest. The contest, designed to encourage children to study aeronautics, engineering and science, received entries from more than 850 students across Texas ranging from ages six to 18.
The artwork was created in Mrs. Harris' Art class at Furlough Middle School, and will remain on display at Dallas Love Field Airport until October 12. Congratulations to all of the featured students on this outstanding achievement. You make us Terrell Proud and Tiger Strong!

2015 Tiger Athletic Hall of Fame
Terrell ISD is excited to announce our 2015 Tiger Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, Keelah Wilson, a Terrell High School Class of 1995 graduate. Wilson joins a group of more than 100 distinguished student athletes who graduated from either Terrell High School or Burnett High School. Wilson was nominated based on her athletic achievements, character, and overall contribution to the Terrell Independent School District.
During her years at Terrell High School, Wilson competed in volleyball, basketball, and track. In 1994, Wilson earned a spot at the state track meet where she won the high jump competition. Wilson went on to earn a full scholarship to play basketball at The University of Texas-San Antonio where she led her team in scoring, rebounding, and blocked shots.
Wilson graduated with a bachelor's degree in Sociology from The University of Texas-San Antonio in 2000, and went on to earn a master's degree in Social Work at The University of Texas-Arlington in May of this year. Wilson coached basketball for two years at Collin College in Plano, TX, and spent six years coaching basketball at The University of Texas-Pan America in Edinburg, TX. Since then, Wilson has worked at Mountain View College in Dallas, TX where she helps high school, first-generation, and low-income students prepare for college.
Wilson will be inducted into the Tiger Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, October 23. Wilson, along with all previously inducted members of the Hall of Fame, will be recognized during a pre-game ceremony at the Terrell vs. Royse City football game. Congratulations Keelah Wilson!

Local Newspaper Inspires TISD Students
Fourth grade students from the Gifted and Talented Academy got VIP treatment and a behind-the-scenes tour of Terrell's local newspaper. The Terrell Tribune team kindly welcomed students into their main office, where the class received an in-depth look at how a newspaper is created and produced.
The tour was organized by GT Academy Director Brownyn Vaughan and fourth grade teacher Kathy Stokes as part of a class project where students will design and publish their own newspaper. The field trip helped students better understand the details and effort required for newspaper production.
