The Cozy Indoors

As we approach the fall and winter seasons, we tend to spend more and more time inside our homes staying safe and warm. How can one create a safe and warm environment for themselves within their home? Here are just a few aspects of home design that can contribute!

LIGHTING

Some of our previous newsletters have briefly highlighted the importance of lighting in relation to the theme and mood of a home. Choosing the correct lighting contributes significantly to the overall comfort of a home. This season, as we begin to enter the colder months, we are looking at ways to use lights to make living spaces as cozy and enjoyable as possible."

Light placement within each room is of great importance to the overall mood of a room. Our job when designing a home is to provide the resources and the opportunity to install light fixtures that fit the home owner, and their lifestyle, perfectly.

Custom lighting goes far beyond choosing light fixtures, though. Thanks to modern home design technology, custom lighting design can include motion sensors, dimmers, timed lights, and much more. When Grace Builders designs or builds a home, we take time to capture the vision of the client and employ appropriate lighting for each and every room.

Bathroom

In her article, "Design a Stylish Bathroom", Angela Kovalyak discusses the basic steps to creating a dream bathroom.

- Plan
- Choose Color and Lighting
- Choose Accessories
- Step Back and Look
- Consider the Future

In the planning phase of bathroom design, it is important to evaluate the design of the home as a whole. What themes show up throughout the home and which one would be most fitting for the bathroom? The color scheme, as well as decorations, within each bathroom should match these themes as well. The next step will involve choosing room accessories. Fixtures are an important contributor to the theme of a room, so during this time, it is important to find bathroom fixtures that flow with the rest of the space.

Stepping back to take a look at the design overall is a simple, yet important, step! This phase is simply a moment to step back and look at the placement of fixtures (such as the toilet) as well as how open and/or clean your design appears.

The final step will be to consider the future. As Kovalyak's article instructs, "Today, you may absolutely love your new bathroom. However, tomorrow you may want to design a stylish bathroom all over again. For this reason, you may want to consider adding permanent fixtures (the bathtub, shower, toilet, vanity) in neutral tones."

Grace Builders looks forward to coming along side you to help design and/or build your dream bathroom!
