Engineered Flooring

Engineered hardwood floor

Engineered hardwood flooring stands as a more than viable alternative to solid hardwood flooring particularly when you're looking to install below grade (in a basement for example), or on concrete. Engineered hardwood floors are made up of a top layer of a real hardwood species and a core, typically consisting of multiple plywood layers laminated together to form a durable plank, or in some cases HDF (high density fiberboard).

In most cases engineered hardwood flooring will last anywhere from 60 to 80 years. Since this is much longer than most people own their homes, engineered hardwood flooring is a good investment for any property.

Wood

Wood flooring is the most beautiful, economical, environmentally friendly, and easy to care for material you can choose for your home.

Wood offers enduring beauty that will last a lifetime and beyond. It never goes out of style and goes well with any décor.

Tile

Tile floor layouts are limited only by your imagination. They range from simple block pattern to more intricate designs. Some people choose to give the tile a 45 degree turn and set it on the diagonal. Tile can be staggered to create a brick pattern. More intricate designs can include layouts which include varying sizes of tile or ones which create a path through the room. Inserts of contrasting or complementary colors can be used to bring new depth to a room.

Carpet

Besides the warmth and softness, today's carpets offer many new features that make carpet a great choice for many interior situations.
Whether you want dramatic color, graphic design or elegant artwork, it is all available in today's new carpet styles. Solid, neutral colors are good, but adding a layer of creativity to any room is easy with carpet. There's no need to limit your decorating choices any more.
Advancements in fiber technology and new carpet construction methods have made carpet more durable and longer lasting than ever in the past. Carpet also insulates the floor and keeps feet warmer in the dead of winter. Walking across the room never felt so good.

Mold Resistant Drywall

Mold-Resistant Drywall

Learn about mold-resistant drywall and how it can help prevent mold growth in your home.

Mold can be a costly and potentially unhealthy nightmare for homeowners. In recent years, widespread concerns about mold growth in homes have led to the development of mold-resistant building products, including mold-resistant drywall.

Mold thrives in moist, damp environments like basements and crawlspaces, where all it needs to thrive is a water source, oxygen and organic material. Often, the latter is provided by drywall that's been exposed to moisture - in this scenario, the paper covering on the drywall can become an all-you-can-eat buffet for all manner of mold species. Mold-resistant drywall was developed specifically to address this common problem.

The chief innovation in mold-resistant drywall is the substitution of fiberglass mat for the paper facing used in traditional drywall. This way, moisture cannot adhere to the organic paper material, creating an attractive food source for mold. In addition to mold-resistant drywall, greenboard is often used in bathrooms and showers as a mold-preventative building material. Though it's less effective at preventing mold than mold-resistant drywall, it's generally also less expensive.

Mold removal and remediation can be a time-consuming, expensive process, and if you do it yourself, it can even present health risks. If you're interested in keeping your home healthy by lessening the risk of mold in your home, you may want to invest in prevention up front, in the form of mold-resistant drywall.

Grace Homes uses this form of drywall as a standard on all projects.

Cabinet Lighting

Getting the Best Lighting for

Kitchen Counters

There are two main criteria for good task lighting: the amount of light falling on the work surface, called illuminance level, and the evenness of the lighting, called uniformity.

The illuminance of a kitchen counter is measured using an imaginary square grid laid out on the horizontal surface of the counter.Measurements are taken at each spot on the grid and then averaged to determine the average illuminance of the work surface.

Uniformity is a measure of the evenness of the lighting. Uniform lighting is easier to work under because the surface has a constant illumination, rather than "pools" or "spots" of light and dark areas. Uniformity problems may be created by the fixture spacing or the design of the fixture itself. Irregular light patterns will hinder performing tasks, detract from the counter and backsplash design, and create an unattractive overall appearance.
