Members Share Information at 5th Annual Youth Expo
On Saturday, April 13, members of Bro/Sis' Liberation Program participated in the 5th Annual Youth Expo hosted by Community Board 9's Youth Education and Libraries Committee. Held at City College's NAC Ballroom, the event brought together organizations to provide information on a range of programs, jobs and internships for children, youth and families in Harlem. Members staffed the Bro/Sis table, sharing information about programs for teens.
Designed for youth interested in activism and community organizing, Bro/Sis' Liberation Program helps our young people develop awareness of social problems and their effect on self, family and community through workshops and exchanges with other community based organizations.

On Sunday, April 21, Khary Lazarre-White, Executive Director & Co-Founder of Bro/Sis, appeared on TV One's Washington Watch with Roland Martin. Along with Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson of Dallas, and Steven Hawkins, Chief Program Officer and Executive Vice President of the NAACP, Lazarre-White discussed violence in America. Bro/Sis alumni, Jemaray Pyatt created a new Game Changers Project video highlighting the disparate enforcement of marijuana laws in New York State. The film aired on Ebony.com and NBC's Grio.com.
Join Us For Our Annual Planting Week
Bro/Sis invites you to our Annual Planting Week, which will take place on May 6 - 10 from 3:30p.m. to 6:30p.m. at our community garden adjacent to our building. Members of Gaia Renaissance, our Environmental Leadership Program, organizes Planting Week. Join us as we prepare our garden for spring - planting vegetables, perennials, and annual plants and filling in our growing walls with herbs. Feel free to bring a friend. It is a community wide event and we always have a great time.

Both Peart and Bro/Sis Executive Director & Co-Founder, Khary Lazarre-White discussed the work Bro/Sis is doing to educate the public about stop and frisk reform.

Voices is Bro/Sis' signature annual benefit, which highlights our youth and our life changing programming. This year Voices will take place on May 29th at Espace. We will be honoring Esperanza Spalding, Grammy Award winning singer and bassist, and Susan L. Taylor, Editor in Chief Emeritus of Essence Magazine, and Founder of the National CARES Mentoring Movement. The event will be hosted by MSNBC's Tamron Hall, feature a guest appearance by Tony Award nominated actor Norm Lewis (lead in Scandal and Porgy and Bess) and music will be provided celebrity DJ and Black Girls Rock founder Beverly Bond.
