With Spring on its way there seems to be a lot going on in our community and our industry. Spring is historically the season for the Parade of Homes in Florida and this year is no different. Our local Parade starts next week and other nearby market areas are going on now.
I was lucky enough to be able to be a Judge for the Sarasota/Manatee Parade of Homes last weekend and that was a great experience! It was a terrific way to see what other builders are doing and what is being showcased in other markets to Buyers. We look forward to bringing some of these ideas and concepts to our customers here in Charlotte County!
Please enjoy another edition of our Newsletter and, as always, welcome any questions, feedback, etc.
Sincerely,
TJ Thornberry

Each year the FHBA (Florida Home Builders Association) holds their Spring Conference while the Florida Legislature is in session. This year it was February 8-10th and I was able to attend some of the meetings and visit with some of the legislators to discuss and lobby on behalf of the Building Industry. I believe and hope it will prove to be time well spent...

Also, this month, we were lucky enough to not only attend the 1st Annual Sweetheart Celebration benefitting AMI Crossroads, but Thornberry Custom Builders, Inc. was the Champagne Sponsor for the event! It was a wonderful evening of fun, fund-raising, and a great way to spend Valentine's Day! We will look forward to being involved again next year!

Monthly Home Feature Showcase
Every month we like to bring useful information to you about home styles, design features, or construction lingo. This month's subject is....
Window Options
Impact Glass vs. Non Impact
In our area, we are required to use either impact resistant windows (aka "storm proof windows") or non-impact windows with hurricane-rated coverings for each window such as storm shutters. Impact resistant windows are composed of a layer of polyvinyl butaryl (PVB) between two slabs of impact resistant glass. Most construction experts believe that the most effective type of impact resistant window is an inner-membrane window. Typically, an impact resistant glass will shatter on impact but it will remain attached to the inner membrane along with the window frame. Non-impact resistant windows are the less expensive option for homeowners. With this option storm shutters are required in our geographic area, an example is pictured below.
Low-E Windows
Low-E Windows have become a favorite among contractors and homeowners. The "E" in Low E stands for emissivity. Low-e coatings have been developed to minimize the amount of ultraviolet and infrared light that can pass through glass without compromising the amount of visible light that is transmitted. This works by reflecting heat the same during the winter and summer, using a thin metallic coating on or in the glass.
Stay tuned for more design and construction info sharing next month...
