Thornberry Custom Builders Inc. Newsletter
November 2015

Greetings!

With Thanksgiving quickly approaching, its a great time to reflect about having so much to be thankful for....

First off, I'm so thankful to live in this great, vibrant and involved community of Charlotte County.  We are lucky enough to live where other people vacation....can't beat that!  Secondly, I'm thankful for the growth that we've experienced in the building industry over the past couple years and the continued progress we are seeing there.  And last but certainly not least, I am so thankful for my amazing family, both here locally and around the country!  I look forward to spending quality time with them as we enter the holiday season!  I hope you all have much to be thankful for this season as well!

I hope you'll enjoy another edition of our monthly newsletter. I always welcome your feedback, questions, and requests for more information.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Sincerely,

TJ Thornberry

~Happenings~

Thornberry Custom Builders, Inc. held an open house on November 12th to showcase one of our recently completed homes in Downtown Punta Gorda.  The owners, Betzy and Marty Blaustein, were gracious enough to open up their home to us for the evening and allow about 75 people to tour the home and see an example of our work.  It was a great evening and look forward to showcasing another one of our completed homes in this fashion in the near future!

Modern Homes with
Historic Detail!

Over the past few months we've been describing the features and influences that create specific styles that are popular here in SW Florida and wit historic homes!

Front Porch Trim and Styles

Large or small, exterior trim can jazz up almost any porch.  You are probably most familiar with the Victorian style home with its intricate trim painted in beautiful colors.  This look can easily be achieved with a little imagination.

Gingerbread trim is what we think of most when we see a Victorian home.  The columns are thinner and the spindles and columns usually have spirals, balls, and curves.  Gingerbread trims are a combination of running trim, brackets, and spandrels.

Running trim is found between porch columns and can match or contrast your home's color.  The options of size and style are endless.

Spandrels are the framed, intricately-cut panels that create arches between columns.  If you have a smaller porch, consider using spandrels with running trim on the front of the eaves.

Brackets are the brace-like pieces that are perpendicular to the street and extend from the columns to the eaves.  Brackets will work on any porch.

Gables are the triangles formed by a roof.  You can have a front gable, side gable, or both. Gables are perfect locations for trim.  Use of PVC trim at the gable will last a very long time, with little maintenance.

Regardless of the style of your home or the size of your porch, you are only restricted by your imagination.  Mix and match different trims, brackets and moldings to create a unique look and reflect your personality.
