Had enough rain?
Below is a picture of the street where I live - Chevy Chase St off Lakeview Blvd.
This is normally considered a low lying area but after one of those extreme downpours we had recently it was totally flooded.
It's definitely not the ideal time of the year to do foundation work but rain or shine, we will keep on building!
I love Summer but I'm looking forward to some Fall weather and of course, Football season!
Sincerely,
TJ Thornberry

Modern Homes with
Historic Detail!
Over the past few months we've been describing the features and influences that create specific styles that are popular here in SW Florida.
Front Porch Styles for Your Historic Home
Historic-style homes like Craftsman, Bungalow, and Shotgun, are timeless. Whether you are renovating or considering a new build, you can incorporate details into the design of your porch to achieve the curb appeal you are looking for.
Craftsman style porches are works of art that are also functional living spaces. The Craftsman style home is a one- or two-story home that feature a front porch with open eaves that overhang the facade. Some include exposed decorative beams and are supported by square columns on pedestal bases, typically of stone, and are narrow at the top and wider at the bottom. Some porches can extend the living space to include open trellis or pergolas. You may also find detailed brackets, stickwork, lattice work, or an ornamental triangle over the entrance.
The Bungalow style home's wide open front porch, built with rustic local materials and handcrafted details, expands the home's living space and creates a sense of community. Like the Craftsman, the Bungalow style home was popular in the early part of the last century, however Bungalows are one- or one-and-a-half stories. Common features are deep overhanging eaves, exposed rafters with decorative brackets, and cobblestones or brick used for the porch columns.
Some say the Shotgun style home gave us the "southern porch." The large overhang of the porch is usually supported by decorative wood brackets and provides for outdoor visiting. Shotgun style homes are typically one- or one-and-a-half stories and one room wide, with the rooms lined up one behind the other. These homes typically have a narrow gable front with a wide porch (often with a similar porch at the rear). Early Shotgun homes took advantage of natural breezes and helped circulate air through a central corridor by opening the front and back doors.
