Be a tourist at home this Summer!

Charlotte County has so much diversified and fun Summertime activities to offer. I encourage you to "Shop Charlotte" as much as possible and "be a tourist" this Summer. Get out and enjoy our own backyard!

Some of my favorite venues include, but certainly are not limited to....paddle board and/or kayak adventure tours. There are several venues out in the Englewood area that offer rentals and tours. Take a boat out of Fishermen's Village to Cabbage Key, Stump pass, Cayo Costa or Don Pedro State Park. Some are not in Charlotte County but they're great day trips. Or hire a local fishing guide and catch a big Redfish or Tarpon.

Want some indoor activities? The Visual Arts Center is a beautiful place to spend the afternoon. If you're in Fishermen's Village check out the Military Museum. These are great places to bring the kids for an educational tour that is fun, too! By the way, Fishermen's Village has great entertainment all year long!

Visit the Farmer's Market in downtown Punta Gorda on Saturday mornings or the History Park and their Sunday morning farmer's market.

Then there's the restaurant/entertainment venues.....my flavor preferences these days include the the Orange House Wine Bar, Celtic Ray, Icehouse, Shorty's, the Tiki bar, Trabue, Prime Steakhouse...just to name a few :)

Get out and enjoy our beautiful area and maybe we'll run into each other!

Sincerely,

Homeowner Tip

Summer Home Maintenance

Is Water Building Up Against Your Exterior Walls?

In an effort to beautify landscapes and keep weeds under control many homeowners add new mulch on a regular basis. While this is great for the plants, you need to watch for build up of mulch near the foundation of the

house.

Too often as mulch is replenished against the home it tends to build up and hold moisture against your block walls above the slab grade. Whether you have a block home or a frame home, this can cause moisture, mold or wood rot at the base of your exterior walls.

The grade line is intended to be below the level of your slab for this very reason. Also, if no gutters are present on your home, the drip line off your roof, especially during heavy downpours, tends to create an indention or gully that over time may erode the dirt and sod enough to hold water against your homes' exterior walls.

You can remedy this by leveling the grade and/or re-sodding if necessary. Another remedy is to have gutters added eliminating the drip factor altogether and moving water away from the house with extended downspouts.

NOT SO LOCAL HAPPENINGS

The family flew out to San Diego to celebrate my niece's high school graduation. It's hard to believe little Kathryn Gene is all grown up!

We all had a wonderful time catching up with family! One of the highlights of the trip was being asked to chaperone my niece and her friends to Disneyland for Grad Night!

New Projects

Remodel: 231 Goldstein, Punta Gorda
Owner:     Julie Price

We have done several projects over the last 5 years on this 1926 historic downtown Punta Gorda home including: new impact resistant windows, new hurricane rated doors, remodeled the master and guest baths, remodeled the kitchen, refinished the original hardwood floors, replaced rotted siding and trim, new paint for the interior and exterior, added a two car detached garage and brick paver driveway.

Our latest project we just finished included clearing out overgrown landscaping which took some time and heavy equipment...

When everything was cleared out...

We added a lanai roof extension to the detached garage and attached deck extension off the front port with a storage room (carpentry by Ralph Haley Carpentry, Inc.) added a free form pool and spa, paver pool deck and fire pit (by Nautilus Pools) new landscaping (by Gatorgrawl landscaping) and new vinyl fence around the entire property.

The project was completed with perfect timing as Summer begins. Cheers to one of our most loyal customers....thank you Julie Price!

A Word from Our Clients...

"...TJ was easy to work with and communicated with me about every detail on a daily basis. Knowing that even the smallest detail was being taken care of by TJ definitely lowered my stress level!

The project itself met our expectations and more. The house and attached garage look amazing. I am still receiving complements from neighbors, friends, and people passing by.  TJ and his staff kept the historic 1920s feel of the home, while updated it with a contemporary flair.

I strongly recommend TJ Thornberry for your renovation or new construction home/business.

Sincerely,

Julie Price, DPT
