Green Tip For The Week

Make it a full load!  Run your dishwasher only when it's full.  Don't pre-rinse dishes - tests show pre-rinsing doesn't improve dishwasher cleaning, and you'll save as much as 20 gallons of water per load. When you buy a new dishwasher, look for one that saves water.  Water-efficient models only use about 4 gallons per wash. (Reprinted from: epa.gov/earthday/tips.htm)

The Interview as a Needs Assessment

If you engage your interviewers, and have good answers to their questions, will you get the offer?  Maybe.  To really seal the deal, you need to treat the interview as your chance to conduct a thorough needs assessment.  Show them why they need you and determine if you want them.

John West Hadley will help you build your interview skills, and help you equip yourself to have much stronger networking conversations.

Important Date Changes For Rabbi Frishman's Class
Polarization or Shalom?
Polarization or Shalom
Class with Rabbi Frishman based on Jonathan Haidt's book:
The Righteous Mind: Why Good People are Divided by Politics and Religion
"I hate you, you hate me, can't we be a happy family?"
In this political year, let's discuss how to get along with people we disagree with strongly. Haidt's important work applies biology and psychology towards understanding the development of morality, and the shaping of groups and communities.
Please acquire Haidt's book as reading preparation must be done in advance of each class.
  • Wednesday, August 3, 7:30 pm:  The Play Between Intuition and Strategic Reasoning (Read Part I)
  • Monday, August 22, 7:30 pm:  The Origins and Shaping of Morality (Read Part II)
  • Monday, August 29, 7:30 pm:  Morality Binds and Blinds (Read Part III)
If you are planning to attend this class, RSVP to Lori at loris1847@barnerttemple.org or (201) 848-1800.
Interested In Being A High Holiday Torah Reader?
Have you listened to our amazing High Holiday Torah readers and wondered how
you could be part of the group that brings Torah to the whole congregation?  Have you wondered how everyone prepares to do this?  It's as easy as sending one E-mail to Rabbi Steiner at rabbisteiner@barnerttemple.org.  As long as you can read Hebrew, Rabbi Steiner will get you the materials you need to prepare and work with you until you are ready to chant or read Torah during Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur services.  We are working on getting our team of Torah readers together as soon as possible so E-mail Rabbi Steiner now to let her know you are interested!
Come Make Some Noise on the High Holidays!
Shofar 2 Calling All Shofar Blowers!
Have you blown shofar during the High Holidays in past years at Barnert?  Would you like to try blowing shofar this year for the first time?  If you answered "yes" to either question, we'd love for you to join our team of shofar blowers.  We will offer a session to teach you how to blow the shofar and learn about its importance.  E-mail Rabbi Steiner at rabbisteiner@barnerttemple.org to let her know you are interested and she will be in touch when the dates for the sessions are set!
