Pamela Druckerman and Boo Zamek at Books & Books Coral Gables
|
We love supporting local talents, which is why Team JAB recently gathered at Books & Books for a reading and discussion of Pamela Druckerman's books on parenting a la francaise, Bringing up Bébé and Bébé Day by Day. And when the signing was over, we grabbed the opportunity to chat with the author, a Miami native full of her own JAB-worthy recommendations! You can also support your fellow JABBERS this week by responding to posts below or feel the love yourself by submitting your own post HERE.
Happy JABBING!

Ready for Repairs The electric company is suggesting our high utility bills are due to a poor functioning air conditioner. Can anyone recommend a reliable company that services the North Dade area? We've discovered a leak in a wall under or behind our kitchen cabinets. Does any one know of a knowledgeable plumber?

All Keyed Up
From Molly Wassman: REPLY I am looking for clean, modest accommodations in the Keys for a trip in August. I found The Pelican in Key Largo, and it seems charming. Can you recommend similar places in Islamorada and Key West? We have a nine-month-old, so the place should be kid-friendly, and we prefer resorts or cottages over hotels. Thanks!

Lost Dog Feels the Love From Tatiana Campuzano I'd like to thank all of the caring JABBERS who responded to my post last week about a golden retriever mix I found wandering near Brickell. I made several attempts to find his owner and really wanted to welcome him into my home, but unfortunately pets are not allowed in my building. I initially took him to a shelter, but when they called to inform me he would be euthanized if no one claimed him, I picked him up and made one more attempt through JustAskBoo. I immediately received several responses and ultimately took him to a wonderful JABBER-recommended animal rescue organization that took him in, named him Alvin and will ensure that he is adopted into a loving home. Thank you so much, JABBERS and JustAskBoo! |
The Right Bites I was recently diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease, but do not suffer from hypothyroidism. I'm looking for a clinical nutritionist near downtown Miami or Miami Lakes. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Insurance Insight
From Fernanda Bressan: REPLY We had a roof leak with interior damage that occurred almost a year ago. Our homeowners and windstorm insurance carriers have denied claims, pointing fingers at each other. An adjuster and an attorney have been working on it, but neither have made any progress. It is frustrating to pay insurance diligently only to have to fight for a claim. Any advice or suggestions are appreciated.

Downtown Miami Real Estate Values Are Increasing Did you know that The Port of Miami is going through major improvements that will inevitably enhance the value of real estate in the Downtown Miami area? A lower number of cargo trucks will be going in and out of the port through downtown, resulting in less traffic. Purchasing a condo there is a smart investment. To find out more about these projects, click HERE, email me HERE or call/text me at 305.303.1218. Arielle Biscayart, Realtor, ONE Sotheby's International Realty.*

Petite Cuisine
We asked Pamela Druckerman to share a seafood recipe from her new book, Bébé Day by Day. JABBERS may be surprised to learn that this dish, Saumon a La Créole, is a staple for French toddlers enrolled in the Parisian public day care system. Bon appétit!
Ingredients
1 medium onion, chopped
1-1/2 tbsp sunflower or olive oil
14-1/2 oz diced tomatoes, canned or fresh
1/2 tsp thyme, chopped
1 bay leaf
Parsley, chopped
Salt and pepper
3 to 4 medium sized salmon fillets, fresh or frozen
Juice of 1 lemon
Directions
Preheat oven to 425 F. In a large pan, sauté the onion in the oil. Add the tomatoes, thyme, bay leaf, parsley and salt and pepper. Cover and let simmer for 15 minutes. Place the salmon fillets in an ovenproof pan. (If you're using frozen fillets, first defrost them in a microwave oven.) Squeeze the lemon juice over the salmon, then spoon the tomato mixture on top of that. Bake in the oven for 20 to 30 minutes, or until thoroughly cooked.
Before serving, remove all the bones and bay leaf, and add a pinch of fresh parsley or chives to each plate. Serve the salmon with rice and a side of vegetables (braised broccoli is recommended).
