If you've ever peered out the window of an airplane over sunny South Florida, then you've probably noticed the vast number of swimming pools dotting Miami's landscape. If this summer's sweltering heat has you searching for one of those refreshing, blue, water-filled boxes, look no further. To supplement the sand and surf of the 12 beautiful beaches we highlighted last month with morning laps, water sprays and slippery slides, check out the neighborhood pools featured in this week's issue.

Before you head out, don't forget to check out Part 2 of our A Summer Read series for book recommendations from Books & Books founder, Mitchell Kaplan. So, go on and grab the sunscreen and a good book and dive in!

Stay Cool and Happy JABBING!

See to It
From Anonymous:  REPLY
My five-year-old son has recently been complaining of objects looking small to him. For example, I'll be standing a couple of feet from him and he'll say my head looks really little. His doctor initially said it had to do with the persistent fluid in his ears causing visual spatial issues, but he recently had tubes put in his ears and his problems persist. I'm concerned there might be something else going on. I've read about a condition known as Micropsia. Have you had any experience with this? If so, I'd love to learn more about it. I'd also welcome suggestions for pediatric neurologists and pediatric ophthalmologists. Thank you.

A Summer Read: Part 2
This week's reading recommendations from Mitchell Kaplan, founder of South Florida independent bookstore chain Books & Books, will take you to Chechnya, death row, America's Heartland and back to South Florida just in time to thoughtfully prepare the family dinner. If you missed his adventurous picks last week, just click HERE.

No Regrets, Coyote by John Dufresne
I'm really looking forward to meeting John's new sleuth, Wylie "Coyote" Melville. John is such a master craftsman, I want to see what he does while working in the noir form.

Stoner by John Williams
This book is rumored to be the best minimalist novel ever written. Yet, at heart it's a love story about the love of literature and passion in midlife. Very intriguing.

Execution of Noa P. Singleton by Elizabeth L. Silver
This is a debut novel written by an attorney about a convicted murderer on death row, but it's really the story of three women. The one accused, the victim and the victim's mother. Can't wait to dive into this thriller that works like a jigsaw puzzle of twists and turns.

Another first novel that is getting rave reviews. Set during the second war in Chechnya and tracing the story of an 8 year-old girl and her sister. I hear it is heartbreaking but transcendent.

Cooked by Michael Pollan
My favorite omnivore! This book is a clarion call to return to home cooking and I'm curious to see how he does it. This will make me think more closely about food (and health) in all of its various aspects.
