Reading is the sole means by which we slip, involuntarily, often helplessly, into another's skin, another's voice, another's soul.
~ Joyce Carol Oates

July's sauna-like conditions have us searching for refuge this summer. And, there are few better ways to transport us to another life, experience, time (or temperature!) than to cozy up with a good book. That's why Team JAB called upon Mitchell Kaplan, founder of Miami's homegrown Books & Books, to bring you reading recommendations that will take you away this summer. Whether you're in to thrillers, new writers, politics, satire, literature, historical fiction or indie books, there's a book for everyone in our two-part A Summer Read series. So, check back with us as we feature Part 2 next week and, if you have a book that you'd like to recommend, email us HERE and we'll feature JABBER picks the following week.
Happy Reading and Happy JABBING!

In a Mood I believe that I have been struggling with borderline personality disorder for a few years and would like to find some help in diagnosing and treating it. I am currently in college and do not have insurance that covers psychiatric treatment. Unfortunately, the symptoms of my mood disorder have started to affect my work and personal life, so I'm hoping to find some help fast! If you know anyone, between the Wynwood and North Miami areas, that is reputable and cost-friendly, since I will be paying out-of-pocket, I would greatly appreciate your recommendations!

Save the Children
The more conflict in the divorce process, the more damaged children of the divorce will be. That is why our mission at the Divorce Mediation Center of South Florida is to spare children as much pain and anguish as possible by guiding their parents through the emotionally charged time in an atmosphere of mutual respect and dignity. We teach our clients how to better communicate and negotiate with each other; a skill that helps them co-parent more peacefully long after the divorce is over. Click HERE to visit our website. Down to an Art We have a valuable Dan Corbin sculpture that we would like to find a buyer for but we're not sure where to list this rare piece. Do you know of a dealer or a gallery that buys/sells fine artwork? I appreciate your replies.

A Summer Read: Part 1
Memories of summer are filled with dog-eared paperbacks, pages warped by pool water and words faded by sunshine. Reading is truly the ultimate summer tradition. This year, Team JAB caught up with Mitchell Kaplan, founder of South Florida independent bookstore chain Books & Books, to bring JABBERS his top picks for truly memorable summer reading ... and a memorable summer!
An epic, sweeping and masterfully-told story. If you like Cormac McCarthy, you will like The Son. The ancient crimes and tangled stories of the men and women who shaped the American West. Independent booksellers around the nation have voted it the #1 Indie pick of the season.
Carl at his satirical best. A severed arm opens the story and a deranged monkey adds to the frenetic mix with a fascinating and colorful cast of zany characters. Yet, as a South Floridian, Carl is always addressing our State's ecological and social ills with authentic and eviscerating concern.
A beautifully constructed novel by a National Book award-winner; it's history and fiction, past and present blending. Three iconic men are connected by a series of remarkable women. A real voyage of the imagination by this Dublin-born treasure.
Perhaps his greatest novel yet, and that is hard to say after The Kite Runner. Follows a close-knit Afghan family over 60 years, tracing two young lives and Afghan history. Resonates with poetry and truth and brings us closer to understanding a culture that can still seem alien to us.
As a political animal who is deeply interested in the future of this country, I love looking closely at our social fabric, what we've won, what we've lost. With his fine journalistic eye, Packer delivers a great work of non-fiction, fascinating to read.
Part 2 of Mitchell Kaplan's reading list will be featured in the next issue of JustAskBoo.

Picture of Health I have been looking into going to one of The Biggest Loser's fitness resorts for a week or so to help me get a grip on my weight and health. All the programs are in different parts of the country and I am wondering if there is anything locally that is similar. I need to go somewhere for at least a week to really educate myself. Your suggestions are really appreciated.

Curtain Call We sold our house, and are now renting. We had many custom curtains and valences throughout the old house that we brought with us during the move. I am seeking advice on the best way to store curtains for a couple of years until we move to a more permanent location. And if you can recommend for a skilled seamstress who can alter some of the curtains to be used in our current residence, I would appreciate that too. Thanks.
