Summer is upon us. Not officially, of course, but here in South Florida we feel the heat. And I don't mean basketball. While most of us are eagerly counting down the minutes until a summer routine of spur-of-the-moment weekend getaways, lazy days by the pool and impromptu trips to the ice cream store, spontaneity requires excellent planning!

Remembering Bella | December 12, 2002 - May 28, 2013
 Many of us have felt deeply connected to Bella Rodriguez-Torres, a 10-year-old Miami girl who bravely fought an aggressive form of cancer called rhabdomyocarcoma most of her life. We have been touched by her courage and by her family's strength and spirituality over the last six years. Although Bella's time here has come to an end, she will continue to inspire people everywhere to LIVE LIKE BELLA. On behalf of Bella's family, thank you, JABBERS< for your prayers and support. |

The Sweet Life

 Whether you're mixing up a batch for your little one's roadside lemonade stand, sipping it poolside or spiking it to make a refreshing cocktail, this lemonade from our Miami North editor, Chae Haile, is a sweet way to cool off in this steamy, summery weather! Ingredients1 ½ cups water 1 ½ cups sugar 12 lemons, halved and squeezed 2 cups lemon-lime soda Cold water Ice 1 lemon, sliced Mint sprigs DirectionsPrepare a simple syrup by mixing water and sugar together and bringing to a boil. Remove from heat and let cool. Cut lemons in half and squeeze juice into a bowl, straining seeds. In a gallon pitcher, mix lemon juice, simple syrup and soda. Add enough cold water and ice to fill the pitcher completely. Garnish with lemon slices and mint. Enjoy!

Does anyone have feedback on the USF Reading Skills and Speed Reading program? The public schools circulate the informational letter each year but I don't know anyone with personal experience. I called the program and was very impressed with what they had to say, so I'd love to hear your thoughts. Your input is appreciated.
