Dear JABBERS:
This time of year is full of celebration, reflection, and excitement.   At JustAskBoo, we are doing all three.  We are celebrating the wonderful team we have assembled at Team JAB, we are reflecting upon the extraordinary things we have seen our community of JABBERS accomplish when they help one another.  And, we are giddy with excitement over how we are going to celebrate JAB's fifth birthday in early 2013!

This festive season, we would like to wish you health, happiness and heartfelt holiday wishes. We hope you seize the moment to celebrate with friends and family, reflect upon the past year and feel excitement over the opportunities that lie ahead.  May you have a very Happy Holiday and a peaceful, prosperous New Year!  See you next year ...

Merry JABBING!
-Team JAB

P.S. JAB Miami North will be back after the New Year on Thursday, January 3, and will return to our regular schedule on Tuesday, January 8.

Our Thoughts and Prayers are in Newtown, Connecticut

From Team JAB

We are utterly heartbroken to think about the unfathomable loss the Newtown community has suffered. This tragedy has left our nation in mourning, grief-stricken by the loss and inspired by the acts of heroism. As Mister Rogers wrote, "When I was a boy and saw scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.'" To help those affected in Newtown, see below for a list of charities that are collecting resources:

  • An official fund for victims' families, and the community as a whole, has now been established: The Sandy Hook School Support Fund, set up by the United Way of Western Connecticut will provide support services to families and the community. All donations to this fund will go directly to those affected. To donate, click HERE.
  • Newtown Youth & Family Services, a nonprofit mental health clinic, will be offering emergency counseling for those impacted. Donations to the organization can be made HERE
  • The Newtown Memorial fund is taking donations for the families and community affected, and is also actively recruiting volunteers and offers of help of all kinds. To help, click HERE.

'Tis the Season to Spritz!

From Chae Haile, JAB Miami North Editor

My German grandma's spritz cookies are so buttery and delicious.  They're also fun to make with the whole family.  Enjoy!

German Spritz Cookies

Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter at room temperature

½ cup sugar

1 large egg

1 ½ teaspoons pure vanilla extract

2 ¼ cups all purpose flour

¼ teaspoon salt

Candied cherries, sprinkles, nuts and colored sugar for garnish

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  In a bowl, beat the butter and sugar for 2-3 minutes.  Add the egg and vanilla extract.  Gradually add the flour and salt.

Fill a pastry bag halfway and twist the end to close.  Pipe a flower shape onto an ungreased baking sheet, spacing each cookie one inch apart.  Decorate the center with a candied cherry.  Add other garnishes as desired.

Bake cookies 7-9 minutes or until the edges begin to turn golden.  Remove from the oven and gently transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.  Makes approximately three dozen cookies.  (Note: More fun holiday shapes can be made using a cookie press and different pastry bag tips).

Moving Boxes, Please!
