The participation of Mexican exporting SMEs is ephemeral and with a high mortality rate.

Despite the country's export success, there export  are fewer companies that export, and the bulk of foreign sales are concentrated in a few firms, according to data from the Ministry of Economy (SE) and the opinion of experts.

In Mexico there are 35,600 exporting firms, but 50 % of foreign sales are concentrated in 44 large companies.Of these, the largest is Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex), followed by companies in the automotive and electrical and electronic sectors, mining and personal items.

Unfortunately, the participation of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) is sometimes ephemeral, with a high mortality rate.

In 2000 there were 37,745 companies and in 2012 were 35,000, said Arnulfo Gomez, a researcher at the Anahuac University, who explained that smaller units suffer operating costs for gasoline increases, security and bureaucracy, among many other things.
