September 2016 Newsletter
A MESSAGE FROM YOUR BOARD

Dear RAC Members,

Children are back in school, or off to college, and Fall is approaching.
September is here and Reflexologists around the world celebrate World Reflexology Week with the goal of educating the public about the fact that Reflexology exists worldwide and to raise awareness about the health benefits of Reflexology.

This issue of our newsletter provides you with many ideas and links to help make your participation in WRW easy, fun and profitable for your business.

The Ballot for voting for serving on the Board will be mailed out shortly.

And by now, you should have also received your Membership Guidebook by email.  We hope you will find the information that it contains to be useful for your Reflexology business.

Thank you again for being a RAC member.

Sincerely,

World Reflexology Week
Sept 19 - 25th
The focus this year is "Working with Children - babies to teens"

World Reflexology Week (WRW) was created by RAA & RAC Professional member Bill Flocco and the International Council of Reflexologists (ICR) in 2002 to promote reflexology around the globe.

No activity is too small! According to Bill Flocco, your action could be as simple as wearing a reflexology t-shirt or carrying a reflexology tote bag in public to generate some conversation about reflexology. You might hand out rack cards, brochures and/or foot maps that you have or decide to print up for WRW.

Even offering a WRW discount coupon on your website or emailing a WRW coupon to your client list can help generate additional awareness about reflexology and its global significance.

To help promote World Reflexology Week, we suggest you read through and use the items within the package developed for you by the International Council of Reflexologists.

Visit the website and get the documents to print out from your computer, such as sample press releases and ideas.

World Reflexology Week Marketing Ideas

Good for Reflexology Awareness

Good for your Business!

  • Send an email Newsletter to your clients, informing them about World Reflexology Week and offer them a WRW Discount Coupon.
  • Volunteer your time to do half-hour Reflexology Sessions at a local Senior Center, Assisted Living Facility or a Children's Hospital.  And, make sure you publicize that you are doing this as part of WRW.
  • Participate in a local group's street fair or some other kind of event, maybe organized by your local Chamber of Commerce.  Get a table where you provide information, brochures and even sample hand reflexology sessions.
  • Contact local media and inform them about World Reflexology Week and what local activities are planned. This can be done through news releases.
  • Try to schedule an interview with the media - television or radio, to speak about WRW or submit an article to the newspaper or local magazine.
  • Volunteer your time to a special public event planned that same week, as this is a good opportunity to spread the word about what you do.
  • Establish a reflexology network and have several reflexologists do a joint ad in the newspaper offering a discount for the week.
  • Do a Facebook post about the health benefits of Reflexology and World Reflexology Week!
  • Collect non-perishable food items at your place of business, during WRW week to donate to a local shelter and send this information to your local newspaper and post in your Facebook page.
Feel satisfied knowing you have joined together with reflexologists worldwide to spread the benefits of reflexology... for a healthier world.

Be sure to take photos of any event or of your participation in WRW and post on your website and your Facebook page!

New Definition of Reflexology

Representatives from the three national reflexology organizations: Reflexology Association of America (RAA), American Reflexology Certification Board (ARCB) and the National Council for Reflexology Educators (NCRE) have been working for months on a new definition for our field. After the members of the focus group agreed the definition was sent to the respective board members to edit and approve.

The new definition approved on August 31st, 2016 is:

Reflexology is a protocol of manual techniques, such as thumb and finger-walking, hook and backup and rotating-on-a-point, applied to specific reflex areas predominantly on the feet and hands. These techniques stimulate the complex neural pathways linking body systems, supporting the body's efforts to function optimally. The effectiveness of reflexology is recognized worldwide by various national health institutions and the public at large as a distinct complementary practice within the holistic health field.

National Council for Reflexology Educators (NCRE)

NCRE emerged in January 2016  as a 501c3 non-profit organization that seeks to foster greater professionalism in reflexology education. It serves educators who put the educational requirements of students first and foremost. NCRE's mission is to meet the diverse needs of the reflexology educational community by bridging the gap between an individual's desire to teach and their potential lack of formal educational training.  NCRE's intention is to support the needs of educators by offering educational resources, forums, conferences, on-line training and giving educators a voice at legislative proceedings.  NCRE's website is under construction. In the meantime correspondence or inquiries may be sent to NCRE P O Box 607832, Chicago IL 60660.
