The London reflexologist Rosanna Bickerton on how reflexology can provide pain and anxiety relief, plus how she 'reads' feet
As published in 2014 by The Telegraph in the U.K.
"Some of my clients have been coming for nearly 20 years... First they feel better, then they feel well, then they stay well," laughs the reflexologist Rosanna Bickerton. "A new client will tell me they haven't had a cold this year for the first time ever, that they have more energy. Reflexology definitely helps the body, even if we don't quite understand how."
What you notice during a session with the charmingly perspicacious Bickerton, 53, is that she can send even the most thought-addled brain into delicious shutdown. "The anxiety state is what I see most often. Which means that all the energy is in the head, so the rest of the body doesn't have enough energy. My work triggers the parasympathetic nervous system, reducing anxiety, stopping the fight-or-flight response, and letting the body heal."

What is the Difference Between Reflexology and Massage?
You are perhaps often asked this question.
The article below is an excerpt from Angie's List! and includes tips for finding a qualified reflexologist.
Reflexology, although it's often combined with massage, is technically not a form of massage. It's a separate practice that applies pressure to reflex zones on your feet, hands or outer ears to affect your entire body.
What's a reflex zone? Simply, it's an area connected to other parts of your body. You have reflex zones on your feet, hands and ears. The basic theory underlying applying pressure to reflex zones is that the pressure affects the nerves, which then carry signals to other parts of your body. Reported benefits include relaxation and improved lymphatic drainage and blood circulation. These benefits help relieve the effects of stress, which in turn helps your body find balance and heal itself.
At the bottom of the article, there is a place to leave comments. Now is your chance to get the word out about reflexology and its benefits!

So Many Definitions and Descriptons of Reflexology on the Internet!
It is interesting to note how many diverse definitions of reflexology exist on the Internet these days.
The Progressive Health Center in Denver posts this one:
"A compression massage applied to the feet and hands, in order to engage & activate reflexes that correspond to all parts of the body. It is based on the Chinese method of Zone Therapy. Stimulation of these reflex zones can help restore the body's normal physiological functioning, reduce tension, alleviate the effects of stress, and assist in bringing greater balance to the body & mind. Sessions: 60 minutes."
Besides reflexology they offer Acupuncture, Craniosacal Therapy, Massage Therapy, Yoga Therapy, Tai Chi, Nutrition, Meditation and Personal Training.
