April 2016 Newsletter
MESSAGE FROM YOUR BOARD

RAC Logo
Dear RAC Members,

With the goal of expanding the knowledge of Reflexology amongst the public and serving our membership better, we are soon launching a new, redesigned website!

The new website should be live by the end of April and we will be sure to send you the announcement and link.

Our new website will include an Education page, where folks interested in studying Reflexology can find links and information as well as a Directory of Reflexologists where our professional members get listed.

The About page helps educate the public about the health benefits of Reflexology and includes a bit of history of Reflexology.

The Legislation page contains important information for everyone in this field and has been compiled with the assistance of author and Reflexologist Christine Issel.

Our Events page features a new Google calendar where we will be listing, for free, any Reflexology-related event, conference or workshop.  Be sure to email us any events you know of in your community.

And, behind the scenes, our new 14-page website is filled with meta tags and key words and a Google Analytics account that will help our association website get found in internet searches.

Other projects are underway.  For now, we hope you find the information in this Newsletter useful.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Ariana Thaxter

TAKING CARE OF YOURSELF
Reducing Stress

As a Reflexologist, you are constantly working on reducing the stress of your clients.  But what about you?

It might surprise you to learn that the conception of biological stress is a fairly recent discovery. It wasn't until the late 1950s that endocrinologist Hans Selye first identified and documented stress. While symptoms of stress existed long before Mr. Selye, his discoveries led to new research that has helped millions combat stress.

Top 10 ways to relieve stress
(besides a Reflexology session!)

#1 - Listen to Calm Music
If you're feeling overwhelmed by a stressful situation, try taking a break and listening to relaxing classical music. Playing calm music has a positive effect on the brain and body, can lower blood pressure, and reduce cortisol, a hormone linked to stress.

We recommend cello master Yo-Yo Ma playing Bach, but if classical really isn't your thing, try listening to ocean or nature sounds. It may sound cheesy, but they display similar relaxing effects to music.

 #2 - Call a Friend!
When you're feeling stressed, take a break to call a friend and talk about your problems. Good relationships with friends and loved ones are important to any healthy lifestyle, and there's no time that this is more evident than when you're under a lot of stress. A reassuring voice, even for a minute, can put everything in perspective.
Quote of the Day

"The world as we have created it
is a process of our thinking.

It cannot be changed without
changing our thinking."
