If you have any pond, koi, or Microbe-Lift-related questions, I am at your disposal, feel free to ask!  Meanwhile, my book, www.ABC-Ponds-book.com would make a sensational gift to someone new to pond ownership or considering a pond in their future.  It is a beautiful, hard-cover illustrated coffee-table edition. Get all the necessary info in this one easy-to-read book.  It should be 'required reading'.  Ask a local distributor for it.

ML/Sabbactisun and ML/Parazoryne
While the label states "For best results, use in water with a minimum temp of 71 F (22C)" this by no means indicates that you cannot use it at lower temperatures.  If using these products to heal a diagnosed problem, you will want to follow that directive.  However, and this is a big however, if using for preventative maintenance in a healthy pond, on otherwise healthy pond fish, the products can be used successfully at any temperature since the fish are not required to assist in any healing capacity during the treatment.  In this case, you are doing your fish a big service by chasing any potentially harmful pathogens off, giving them the chance to recuperate from stress of seasonal changes without certain imminent dangers.  It is highly recommended that these products be used when opening and closing the pond.  A 10-day regimen does not require the fish to be "sick" when
treated, therefore the water need not be 71
F (22C).  I treat my own fish with these, spacing them 12-hours apart, using both for the same 10-day period (i.e. - Sabbactisun at 7am and Parazoryne at 7pm).  I love these products because they 1) work, and 2) do not harm my filter bacteria.

What should I do now?

It is important to know when to stop feeding your

fish.  The generally accepted rule is to stop when the water temperatures are around 50F.  In the south, this is not a critical concern, but up north where a snowfall may last more than a couple of days.  Fish cannot predict the weather.  At lower water temperatures it can take up to 4 days to eliminate the food.  Food would not be helpful if it became septic inside the fish's gut.  There are bacteria that still function when our fish are not functional.  It's just better to err on the side of caution.  What the fish eat (algae or bugs in the pond) over the winter months on their own won't hurt them and will sustain them until the water warms up in spring.  In winter, the fish will rest and benefit from not eating.

Did You Know?
Nitrite levels are dangerous for fish at 1.0 ppm and
become lethal above 2 ppm.

Salt is harmful to plants at different levels, depending upon the individual plant's tolerance level.

Some hobbyists use Golden Orfes or a Bass in the pond to control koi populations.
