Margo Kane Awarded with Honorary Doctorate of Letters

 

We have a Doctor in the house! Congratulations to our own Margo Kane for being awarded with an Honorary Doctorate Degree from the University of Fraser Valley. The ceremony will take place on June 12th at the Abbotsford Center where Margo will give a brief address to the graduates from the College of Arts and other guests.

Artist News: Rulan

 

Land Connections with  Rulan Tangen part of the Indian Acts SeriesThursday June 17 - Saturday June 21, 2015

 

Internationally regarded dance artist and choreographer, Rulan Tangen, from New Mexico, is coming to Coast Salish territories.  For three days, Full Circle will host a series of events celebrating the work of this pioneer of Indigenous contemporary dance.  Activities include an Artist Talk and video screening, workshops, a masterclass and of course, gathering and feasting.  All activities are Pay-What-You-Can. Are you a practicing Aboriginal artist, looking to work in a collaborative manner? The Aboriginal Ensemble Program offers apprenticed based training opportunities for both entry level and experienced artists and provides assistance in the development of personal projects (ie: mentorship, dramaturgical support, studio readings/performances of works in progress etc.). On the Road: Margo Kane at The Study / The Repast in Ontario


 

Recently, Margo Kane participated in Repast, a collaboration between

Debahjemujig Storytellers, IPAA and the National Arts Center: English Theatre where participants focused on diverse aspects of the plays, performance styles and history of Indigenous performance  


 

Through this program, Margo spent an inspirational 2 weeks with colleagues in the Indigenous theatre community sharing scripts and stories with playwrights, actors and a vast community from across Canada. Watch videos of this experience.



 

Call for Submissions - Indigenous Laws and the Arts Collective

 

We are proud to invite participation in Testify  - a project of the Indigenous Laws and the Arts Collective

 

Testify will create an opportunity for dialogue between artists and legal theorists about Indigenous laws and opportunities for their dynamic and live expression as part of Canadian society.

BC Creative Achievement Awards for First Nations Art

 

Are you a BC First Nations Artist or would you like to nominate someone for an award? There are five First Nations Arts Awards available and the successful applicants will be awarded $2500 each. The BC Creative Achievement Foundation will be accepting submissions until June 30, 2015.


 
To be eligible the candidate must be a BC First Nations artist who is working in traditional or contemporary visual arts fields. The art forms include, but not limited to, carving, weaving, beading, jewellery, photography, painting, masks, sculpture, etc. You can apply online or by mailing in a submission form.
