Santa Elena Community Center - Christmas 2014

Are you looking for a Christmas project for children? We have a mission to children of the Tarahumara Indians in Mexico. This December we will be taking jackets and Christmas boxes to approximately 40 children. Would the children in your church like to participate in helping other children?
These children live in extreme poverty and endure "permanent discrimination, exclusion and marginalization" in their country.  Their homes are log structures or caves in the Copper Canyon. At the mission, children are taught about Jesus and Christian values.  They are taught Spanish, a necessary language as a tool for potential escape from their extreme poverty.  They have access to tutoring in their school work.  They receive love-filled care from the missionaries, Manolo and Rayito Guerrero. Our mission also helps students who want to go beyond education available locally. Currently, we have 3 girls attending secondary school, a rare opportunity for Tarahumara children.
If your church would like to help, a contribution of $20 will buy a jacket and $25 will buy a box full of Christmas goodies. Interested? Contact: Dan Knorr, dbknorr@zianet.com or Pastor Judy Shema at Community UMC Ruidoso: arielsoars@gmail.com.

NM Delegation Endorses NWTX's Rev. Dr. Jimmie Nunn.
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
On October 16, 2015 the New Mexico Delegation met to consider the endorsement for the office of the Episcopacy of Rev. Dr. Jimmy Nunn, the Northwest Texas Director of Administration and Mission. On behalf of the delegation, it is my privilege to announce to you that our delegation reached full consensus to endorse Jimmy and thus joined our sister conference in supporting his candidacy.
Both, the New Mexico and the Northwest Texas Conferences have worked together in advancing the ministry of our Episcopal Area and Jimmy has been instrumental in ensuring that our mutual ministry continues to grow. We believe that Jimmy has a kingdom-focused vision coupled with a sound strategic mindset. He is also skilled in developing systems that foster healthy growth in the mission field. If elected Bishop next year, Jimmy will be eligible to serve for three quadrennia. We entrust his candidacy and election to the prayerful discernment of the SCJ Conference. May God continue to bless your lives and ministries.

Rev. Dr. Jana Childers at Preaching Academy: Recapture Elements of 'Classic Church'
Story submitted by the Rev. Kerry Greenhill
"...Quoting prominent Christian blogger (and Millennial) Rachel Held Evans, Dr. Childers discouraged ministers from bending ourselves to the tastes and preferences of younger generations to try to make church "cool." Instead, we might seek to recapture the elements of "Classic Church" (a term that 67% of Millennials prefer to "Modern" or "Traditional Church") that draw from ancient wisdom and tradition, including chant, labyrinths, candles, the liturgical calendar, and the Sacraments.
Some of the life changes typical of Millennials (those born 1981-1996) as compared to earlier generations include delayed marriage, women working, fewer children, work uncertainty, higher levels of education, sensitivity to global issues, and immersion in social media. One third of all Millennials claim no religious affiliation at all, the so-called "Nones" in many recent articles and conversations. Millennials tend to be open, connected, confident, upbeat, attracted to social justice, searching for spiritual meaning, and have a positive relationship with (older) adults. They have been shaped by protective parents, the age of terrorism, and media culture."
