Margie Harner
President's Message

By Margie Harner
2015-2016 NAIFA-Jacksonville President

NAIFA-Jacksonville hosted our Annual MDRT Panel and Annual Meeting on May 25th. Listening to Don White, Brad Ernst, and Tom Foy was very enlightening along with the table topics that gave each of us some useful tools to take back to our offices. Thank you to each of our presenters for sharing their stories and processes for success! We also showcased our new board of directors for the 2016-2017 year who will be officially elected at our next monthly meeting on June 22, 2016 at the University Club.

We are so pleased to announce that Patrick Juliano from the Department of Insurance and CEO Atwater's office will be our speaker for our next meeting, June 22, 2016. He will have timely information from the department and you won't want to miss it. Please make your reservations soon.

This is my last official month as President of NAIFA-Jacksonville. Thank you so much for the opportunity to serve this incredible organization. It has been quite a year! We have had our fair share of challenges to work through along with so many wonderful events and meetings. We continue to grow our association. We wrapped up the pilot program with the addition of over 50 new members who are 0-3 years in the business. With this, we continue to have a very active Young Advisor Group. Our Day on the Hill and the Congressional meetings in Washington D. C. were also attended by NAIFA-Jacksonville members. It is very important that we continue the mission to stay involved with the Advocacy areas of NAIFA - IFAPAC and IFAPIC. Our advocacy arm of NAIFA is alive and well and continues to insure our futures along with the important products we provide to our clients. We participated in many meetings, calls, and emails about the Department of Labor issue and provided education to our members and legislators on this important issue.

Our Gala this year was a fun and classy event! We held the event at Epping Forest and honored Paul Broome, II. CLU, ChFC as this year's winner of the C.G. Snead / J.F. Bryan III Memorial Award for outstanding service. Jim Love, CASL, CLU, CPCU, LUTCF, ChFC was honored as our Community Service Award winner. Many others were honored for MDRT and Quality Awards. Many thanks to our committee for such an enjoyable event.

NAIFA also provides an action-packed Day of CE, Pre-licensing Courses, YAT Panel of Peers, Blood Drives, State and National conferences, and the Leadership in Life Institute Program (LILI). We also have great on-line programs and assistance through state and national NAIFA websites. We want to plug you into areas to keep you active in your organization. We need YOU to help on one of our committees or events. Join in and get involved so you can reap all the benefits of your membership.

Have A Great Summer!
Again, thank you for the opportunity to serve as your President this year. It has been and honor and privilege. Your new board of directors will be working hard over the summer months to prepare for an exciting year ahead. Be on the look-out for our Calendar of Events!

2016 Congressional Conference Highlights

In May, Maureen Kirschhofer and I joined 800 of our closest NAIFA friends from all over the U.S. to attend the NAIFA Congressional Conference in Washington, D.C. Representing Duval and surrounding areas, we met with Senator Nelson, the office of Rep. Ron DeSantis, the office of Rep. Ander Crenshaw and Rep. Corrine Brown. This year's message was simple yet powerful....We represent Main Street NOT Wall Street. Sharing our stories on the value we bring to over 75 Million American families through Life Insurance, Annuities, Retirement Savings and Employee Benefits. How exhilarating is was to educate members of Congress on the concerns of the new DOL rule and how it will impede the ability for consumers to access to professional advice that we offer every day. With the implications of future public policy and tax reform being right around the corner, it is vital that we build stronger relationships and have these conversations with our representatives TODAY, before it's put in ink TOMORROW.

Every year NAIFA goes to battle for your career, so I encourage you to get on board for future opportunities and have your voice heard. I have to admit, there is an unforgettable sense of excitement just being in the halls of Congress and having the opportunity to meet with our lawmakers on behalf of our industry. I'm proud to be a participating member of a powerful grassroots effort that only NAIFA can provide.

"We in America do not have government by the majority. We have government by the majority who participate." ~ Thomas Jefferson.
