This is the sixth year that the LIFE Foundation has promoted its " Insure Your Love" campaign to raise awareness about life insurance, also known as "love insurance". Click HERE for complete details.
We've got a lot going on this month and next on a local and state level. We continue to provide our members with the best CE opportunities and NAIFA-Jacksonville has a Full Day lined up February 17th. Complete details can be found below, as well as details about our Membership Luncheon on February 26th. This month we welcome attorney and author Luther Beauchamp and I encourage you to invite a non-member to join us.
I further encourage you to become more active in our political advocacy efforts, and our biggest state-level event is the perfect time to show up: the annual Legislative Day on the Hill in Tallahassee. We'll meet up with NAIFA members making the trip from around the state to personally talk to our legislators and we want you to join us. Did you ever hear a broken record? I realize that most of you producers are not old enough to have had that experience! This is when a 45 or LP developed a scratch and you'd hear the same words over and over because the needle on the record player would not advance. Speaking of needles and redundancy, one thing that does not change is the constant need for blood supplies. Blood is something that cannot be manufactured or generated in any way. It requires the generosity of time and compassion from individuals in order to have these supplies available for those in need. My hope is that more of you really understand this need and will consider donating, not just once but perhaps for the rest of your life. Our industry is about protecting families on the financial side, so why not choose another form of protection such as the ability to save a life? Our NAIFA-Jacksonville Blood drives will be held at the Liberty Center - 7077 Bonneval Road, Jacksonville, 32216 on the following afternoons, just watch your email and NAIFA website for details: February 20th, June 26th, October 9th and December 11th. Remember that APPS Paramedical Services donates a $100 prize to be drawn from those who donate on behalf of our industry! You do not need to be an agent, just be employed in the insurance field and must donate at our specific drives.

NAIFA-Jax Membership Luncheon! |
Invite a non-member to lunch!
Wednesday, February 26, 2014
11:30 am - 1:00 pm at The University Club
1301 Riverplace Blvd., 27th Fl., Jacksonville, FL 32207
"Put Your Heart into Your Work"
GUEST SPEAKER:
Luther Beauchamp
Luther Beauchamp (pronounced "Beach-um") has practiced law in or near his home town for more than 40 years and still hasn't gotten the hang of it.
Luther's office is located only 2 blocks from the house in which he was born less than 100 years ago. The short (nearly 5' 4" with blisters on his feet) lawyer explains that even though there is not much of him above ground his roots are very deep.
There is an explanation for the way his name is pronounced. Luther says he had illiterate ancestors who either could not spell "Beachum" or could not pronounce "Beau-champ." A graduate of Chiefland High School, Florida State University and the Vanderbilt University School of Law, Luther often shares stories from his school days including those relating to "the great football tradition at Vanderbilt University."
Luther and his wife Vera have 2 adult children (they weren't born that way but grew into adults) and 9 grandchildren. Their daughter is the wife of a pastor in Georgia and their son is director of campus ministries in the Tallahassee area. The son also wrote the "Forewarning" for Luther's first book, "I'll Try to Be Short..." His second book about funny things in law school and law practice is called "Legal Shorts... Not Briefs."
Speaking to various business, professional and church groups many times each year, Beauchamp encourages his audiences with a broad range of humor. Luther says we should find humor every day and he believes that most people can be funnier than they look.
The cost in advance is $20.00 for Members and $25.00 for Non-Members.

By Robin Wahby, CLU "Yes, we all are on our way to new goals. The path to success is the same as the path to failure. Your vision must be clear. I like this definition of growth because it is real: Continued growth is the result of drive and new learning minus the interference of self-defeating thinking that clutters the mind. So let's focus: Purpose - Why I am in business Value - What separates me from others Payoff - What I get as a result of achieving my purpose Needs - What I don't have enough of Key Goals - What I must achieve that will give me what I need Key Strategies - How I will achieve my goals Support - What I need from others This is a simple self-check while reviewing your business plan and goals. We all build relationships by helping people deal with anxiety. We help ourselves by dealing with our anxiety issues. In conclusion, if your vision is set, execute and think about the steps above.
If you only remember one thing from this CHIRP, remember that anxiety is a lack of personal mastery - It is NOT personal inadequacy. Master your Key Strategies and see your success fly!

From NAIFA GovWatch:
Agent Licensing Reform Passes Senate as Part of Flood Insurance Rate Reform Bill
Issue: Insurance Regulatory Reform Date: January 30, 2014 Action Taken: The Senate today passed S. 1926, the Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability Act, which provides rate relief for homeowners who cannot afford the new flood insurance rate hikes that resulted from reforms enacted in 2012. Also included in the flood bill is the legislative text of a NAIFA-supported bill known as the National Association of Registered Agents and Brokers Reform Act (NARAB II). In September 2013, the House passed NARAB II by an overwhelming vote of 397 to 6. The Senate bill is a companion to the House bill. Background: NARAB II will establish a national licensing organization to allow agents to operate in multiple states more efficiently. An agent will still have to be licensed in his or her home state, and membership in NARAB will permit the agent to operate in every other state in a streamlined manner. NARAB maintains strict licensing and continuing education requirements, and preserves all regulation of insurance at the state level. It also provides an additional layer of consumer protection by requiring the agents who become members to undergo federal criminal background checks.
NAIFA Win: Among the major successes today was the defeat of an amendment offered by Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) by a vote of 24-75. The Coburn Amendment would have allowed a state to opt-out of the licensure entity. The Coburn Amendment was a "poison pill", which would have undermined the effectiveness of NARAB. Prior to today's Senate action, Senator Coburn blocked the Senate from taking up the NARAB legislation that previously passed the House. NAIFA-Oklahoma actively lobbied Senator Coburn to release his hold and allow the Senate to proceed by agreeing to a vote on his amendment. Today NAIFA prevailed. NAIFA APIC key contacts and grassroots around the country were activated and achieved a successful result. Click here to see if your Senators voted with NAIFA and voted no on the Coburn Amendment.
Next Steps: Because the flood rate reforms were enacted to make the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) actuarially sound, the status of a flood rate relief bill remains uncertain in the House. It is clear that there is wide spread support for providing relief for policyholders, but there is concern that delaying the reforms will perpetuate an unsustainable program that is $24 billion in debt. As the flood rate relief efforts continue, NAIFA urges the Members of the House of Representatives to reaffirm their support for NARAB and include the legislative text of the bill in any flood rate relief legislation.

NAIFA Congressional Conference |

On May 20th-21st, 2014, NAIFA will be holding its 2014 Congressional Conference with a similar goal - to establish and cultivate relationships with lawmakers, to share the expertise of NAIFA members, and educate them on the value of life insurance, annuities, retirement savings, and employee benefits for 75 million American families. Please register today and join us in this important effort to educate lawmakers about the value of your business to your clients! The first 600 NAIFA members to register, who meet certain criteria, will be eligible to receive a reimbursement (up to $350 each) to offset their travel expenses!
