IED Update

January 2014

InEnglish Digital Update

New Happy Year and welcome to another edition of our InEnglish Digital (IED) Updates! This is to ask you for your feedback to IED Number 7, and to give you a sneak preview of what will be available in IED Number 8!

Please send us your comments, and feel free to forward this to your friends and colleagues and encourage them to subscribe.

We would like to include your comments in these Updates - this will make IED not so much a publication, but more a conversation. We want to hear from you, so we can make future IEDs more relevant to your context.

Wherever you are in the Lusophone world, or beyond, we hope you have a great 2014!

Looking back...
InEnglish Digital IED-07

The theme was 'Challenging the Paradigm', and asked questions about some of our basic assumptions concerning teaching.

To date, over 8,500 readers have accessed this edition from around the world, with Australia making a first-time entry in the Top 5!

One of our readers, Bruna Pogliano, wrote:

"Just to say THANK YOU. I'm an Italian teacher, I love your magazine and I always look forward to the next issue. I may read single issues at a much later time, because time is always short, while it deserves all my attention.

Actually, I always read the magazine thoroughly and I find the articles inspirational, often providing innovative points of view. I've now read about websites and tools I didn't know about before.

The most amusing part of the magazine, for me, is clicking on the links and discovering new net-worlds, and right after that trying to do something new with my students...."

Looking forward...
The mystery that is the IED-08 cover...

...to April 2014, when IED8 is due to be published.

The theme is ''How creative can you be?". It opens with an article by Alan Maley, Lifetime Achievement Award winner at the 2012 ELTons.

This issue challenges teachers to explore the extent of inventive and imaginative teaching.

Contributions are from wide range of experienced EFL teachers from Lusophone and other countries. Articles  range from theoretical parsing to practical tips for creative classroom practices from highly experienced teachers.

If you are interested in writing an article for InEnglish Digital then please consult the guidelines for contributors on our InEnglish Digital page.

The InEnglish magazine was originally launched in December 1979 under the name of the Newsletter.

It then became the Journal, and in Autumn 2002 took on a new look and a new name - InEnglish.

In Spring 2008 it first experimented with being an online magazine. In 2011 the magazine became InEnglish Digital.

You can catch up with IEDs 1 to 7 by using our previous issues section.

Got something to say?
We are always looking for teachers and other ESL/EFL professionals to contribute to future editions of IED. You don't have to have published before.

If you have some classroom activity which you think would work for others, if you have had a classroom experience that was so memorable that you'd like to share it with others, or if you have some thoughts about methodology or strategy, then why not consult the guidelines for contributors and write an article?
