Greetings!

I have recently reread a book that contains an abundance of tips for helping to organize your life and making things more streamlined.  For that part alone, go get the book. The part I wanted to share with you, though, contains six dimensions of self-care to consider changing, altering or improving, to assist you in having wellness be a bigger part of your life. Don't dismiss the book because of the title, as the title does not apply to everyone but the tips inside can truly be beneficial for many of us.

The book is called 10 Simple Solutions to Adult ADD: How to Overcome Chronic Distraction & Accomplish Your Goals by Stephanie Moulton Sarkis, Ph.D, New Harbinger Publications. You can purchase the book through my website by going to the Recommended Reading page and clicking on the book.

The six dimensions to be discussed are Physical, Social, Occupational, Spiritual, Intellectual, and Emotional.  I will discuss three of them in this newsletter and the remaining three in next month's newsletter.

Enjoy the information below and as always, please pass it on to anyone you believe may benefit from its content.

Sincerely,

From The Positive Perspective.......

Dimension #1: Physical

This dimension includes thinking about things such as taking care of your body by participating in a regular exercise program that is approved by your doctor for your skill level; making sure your diet includes a balance of the nutrition you need to be healthy; and being diligent about getting enough sleep to allow your body to rest, so it can be at its best during the day.  Think about exercising with a buddy to help you be accountable on those days you just don't feel like exercising.  Be aware of fad diets that are out there, for they may not be the healthiest for you.  Watch portion control and fast food choices.  Think about a transition time before you go to sleep.  Turning off electronics 30 minutes before bedtime can help you wind down and fall asleep faster.

Dimension #2: Emotional

This dimension includes remembering to take time out each day to relax your mind, possibly through meditation.  Also work on looking at each day with a positive attitude that you will do your best with what has been given to you.  Perfection is not expected, but 100% effort into what you are doing is.  Give your best.  Reducing your anger and finding better ways to control it can assist in a better emotional state as well.  Professionals as well as other self-help books have many wonderful ideas for helping in this matter.  Remember to incorporate some fun into your day as well.  We all need a break from the stressors of the day; "Recess" for adults.

Dimension #3: Spiritual

This dimension includes taking the time to realize that we are all interconnected.  You have a place and a purpose in this world that connects with the places and purposes of others.  What do you want to do with that?  Acknowledge that your choices affect others.  Get involved with your community to help others so you can take in the experiences and allow that to enrich your life.  Spend some quiet time alone in a place that makes you feel good.  For some, it's your special chair in the living room or that bean bag chair from Aunt Sue that was always your favorite place to relax.  Nurture your soul just as you would nurture your newborn child or your neighbor who has lost someone special in their life.

Taking care of some of these aspects of your life can help you to feel better about each day and what you contribute to life happening around you.  Remember that you are worth putting this effort into yourself.  When you are nurtured, you are better able to nurture others as well.

Stay tuned for the last three dimensions to come next month.

As always, look at taking care of yourself .....From The Positive Perspective.

Stay well.
