Dragon Happenings
Dear Imagine Families,
This is the last week of assessments, and our students and staff will be glad when they're done. On Monday and Tuesday, students in grades 2-8 take the third administration of the math and science benchmark tests that indicate the progress your child has made in mastering the grade level standards. Our Algebra1 Honors students take their End of Course exam on Thursday. This is required to demonstrate mastery and to earn high school credit. The calendar is filling up with many end of school activities. The PTO changed Teacher Appreciation Week to the upcoming week so our early release day could be used for a staff luncheon. The teachers are very excited! Message to New Applicants- Imagine School has been very fortunate to have a very long list of applicants for the next school year. Our lottery was held on February 1st, and any application received after that date was put at the bottom of the waiting list. Jeannie Murphy is your primary contact for any questions related to enrollment. You are receiving this newsletter because you applied to Imagine School. If you determine you'd rather not receive this weekly notice of activities, please feel free to opt out at the bottom of this newsletter by clicking UNSUBSCRIBE.
This week's newsletter issue includes information on a food drive, teacher placements, field day, performances and presentations, and several repeat items.

Food Drive
|
Parents,
The 4th and 7th grade students have been learning about hunger and its effect on kids right here in our community. In response to what they have been learning, students have decided to put together a food drive. The food drive will take place, next week, May 13th-17th. To add a little fun to an important cause, students have come up with themed food days and themed dress down days for any student who brings the food item of the day.

Sumdog Math Contest
| Imagine has signed up for the Pasco County Math Contest that will begin on May 10th and run through Mary 16th. No Imagine students have logged any points as of today. Talk to your child's teacher to get their account. Students earn points for correct answers, and we'll compete against other schools in Pasco County. The contest ends on the 16th, but the practice options are available all summer. You can check out the site at www.sumdog.com .

Teacher Placements
|
Several weeks ago I shared information about the plans for 4th and 5th grade teacher placement. This week I have information to share about Gr. 1 and 2.
- Grades 1 and 2 will not be looping with their students next year. I have determined that teachers remaining with one grade level will become more proficient in Common Core, and ultimately provide improved instruction to students.
- Grade 1 teams for next year:
- Mrs. Brush (Reading/Writing) and Mrs. Neff (Math/Science).
- Mrs. Wynacht (Reading/Writing) and Ms. Romero (Math/Science)
- Grade 2 teams for next year:
- Mrs. Henderson (Reading/Writing) and Mrs. Slay (Math/Science)
- Mrs. Smith (Reading/Writing) and Mrs. Daily (Math/Science)
- Mrs. Hertenstein will teach all subjects to one classroom of students. She will move to grade 3 the following year.
Repeat from last week:
- Grades 4 and 5 have determined that their students would ultimately benefit more from a grade specific teacher than from looping.
- Grade 4 teams for next year:
- Mrs. Denson (Reading/Writing) and Mrs. Curran (Math/Science). Mrs. Curran has been a long term substitute this year in the primary and intermediate grades and we're pleased to offer her a permanent position next year.
- Mr. Baldwin (Math/Science) and a Reading/Writing teacher to be hired.
- Grade 5 teams for next year:
- Mrs. Kupcik (Math/Science) and Mrs. Hawley (Reading/Writing)
- Mrs. Pendleton (Reading/Writing) and a Math/Science teacher to be hired.
We're informing parents at this time so there are no surprises. Some parents may determine that the changes are unacceptable and look elsewhere. Please know that any decisions are made based on fact and separating emotional ties with students and families. This is hard for parents and it is also a hard task for teachers.

Parent Request Letters
| This is the time of year that parents ask whether they can request a specific teacher. Here is my belief about the role of parent request letters:
- Parents know their child better than anyone else.
- Parents know what they'd like to see for their child
- Parents do not know a teacher unless one of your other children had the same teacher. ( And remember, what's good for one sibling isn't necessarily what's best for the next one.)
- One parent's recommendation isn't necessarily what your experience would be. All children are different.
Parents may send a letter that talks about what you know best- your child. Parents may request a specific teacher if a sibling had that teacher and you believe it would be beneficial for the next child also. Parents may request not to have a specific teacher if a sibling had that teacher and you don't think it would be a good fit. Parent request letters requesting a specific teacher based on recommendations will be returned to you. Please send any letters to the principal. |
