Dragon Happenings
Dear Imagine Families,
Last week was very busy! Students experienced their first week in the Media Center, had lots of fun with Spirit Week, celebrated Valentine's Day, and ended the week with JumpRope and Hoops for Heart! We received information about a new support group starting in Trinity for parents of children with Autism and Neurological Disorders. If you know someone that could benefit from this group, please pass along the flyer. Thanks to your fundraising efforts, the PTO was able to purchase additional printers so every classroom teacher has one. Our next goal is to set up a second computer lab in the media center. This issue includes the link for the i9 Sports League Team, information on Boosterthon, volunteers, kindergarten tours, Box Tops and several repeat pieces.

Boosterthon
|
Parents,
We're excited to kick off the Boosterthon Fun Run at Imagine in two weeks!
The goal of the Boosterthon Fun Run is to raise funds while teaching our kids about the importance of Fitness, Leadership, and Character. Funds this year will go towards enhancing the technology at our school. Parents, we need your help to connect your child with sponsors! We are very excited to have the Boosterthon Fun Run Team on campus for a second straight year, as they will be adding value in so many ways to our students and school!
Please watch this quick video for a message about this year's Boosterthon!

Volunteers
|
Imagine Families-
Can you believe the year is almost 3/4 over! I wanted to say thank you to those that have volunteered and for those that haven't, give a gentle reminder. As a school of choice, each family has committed to volunteering 20 hours per school year. Some of you have FAR surpassed that, thank you!
Below are a few ways you can still complete your commitment...
- Upcoming events where volunteers will be needed. Boosterthon (3/13), Picture Days (4/3 & 4/4), Book Fair(4/8-12).
- Your child's classroom. Email your child's teacher and ask how you can help. Either inside the classroom, a field trip chaperone, or maybe taking a task home to help lighten their load.
- Purchasing needed supplies for the classroom. Towards the end of the year supplies are lower and special treats are needed during the testing season for rewards.
- We are contemplating a "work day" to clean the picnic tables again, clean up trash outside, scrub the walls a little. The stuff the maintenance crew doesn't do.
- And yes, you may "buy out" of your hours. The cost is $10 per hour. We would like this to be a last resort as the goal is to get to know our families and for them to have a vested interest in their child's school. These funds go towards our fundraising efforts, mainly technology improvements.
- A common question I get is, how do the hours get recorded? I look at the Raptor system (the school sign in badge system) and cross reference the teacher's logs. Each teacher has a log that records what hours you worked. It is where you can also have them record what you purchased for their classroom. For PTO activities, I have a record of who volunteered.
Thank you families for helping make Imagine a school we can be proud to send our children to.

Spirit Week
| Students had a great time during Spirit Week last week. Each day they dressed up following the theme for the day.
Wednesday was Spirit Day and students were asked to dress in blue and gold. Check out this creative repurposing of the yellow T-shirts from several years ago!!

Talent Search
| The Duke University Talent Identification Program is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving academically gifted youth. As a world leader in gifted and talented education, Duke TIP works with students, their parents, and educators to identify, recognize, challenge, engage, and help students reach their highest potential.
The deadline for the grades 4-6 talent search is coming up. A flyer with more information can be found here.

Kindergarten
| We've schedule several kindergarten tours for parents this spring. The purpose is to assist new kindergarten parents in determining whether Imagine School is the right school for their child. They'd like to see the classrooms in action. Parents notified that a seat is available for their child can reserve a spot for one of the tours. Please contact Jeannie Murphy through e-mail or by calling the school at 813-428-7444.
This is not a time for students to visit. We will schedule a kindergarten visitation date in May.

Box Tops
|
The deadline to earn money this school year with Box Tops is coming soon! With your help we've earned $1500! Our goal is $2500 for the year so please keep on clipping and bring them in to help our school. The deadline is February 25th.
|
School Choice
| The district has opened up their annual School Choice window on February 1st and it will close on March 1. Parents of 8th graders who want their child to attend a different high school than their zoned school must complete the school choice form during this window. Information on district choice can be found here.
School choice for charter schools is open year round as long as there are seats available. We are identifying our new students for August 2013 following the lottery held on February 1st. Many thanks to our families that recommended Imagine to their families and friends.
