Dear Imagine Families,

      2013

Happy New Year!

Students return in the morning, and we start the third quarter of the school year.  The teachers are ready to go, and will be there to greet your children in the morning.

The lottery for the 2013-14 school year will occur on February 1st.  We have 10 new students beginning tomorrow, and about 6 more within the next 2 weeks.  Some parents are ensuring a seat by enrolling now.  We've scheduled another Parent Information Night  for the 15th.

This issue includes information about our newly selected Teacher of the Year, Citizenship Awards, Angel Tree, Family Fun Night, and various upcoming enrichment opportunities.

Teacher of the Year (TOY)
TOY Each year the staff identifies on of the teachers as Teacher of the Year.  The criteria includes their instructional capabilities, as well as demonstration of Imagine's Six Measures of Excellence.

Congratulations goes to BreAnne Kilmer who was selected as Teacher of the Year for Imagine School at Land O Lakes!!  Mrs. Kilmer teaches grade 8 language arts, grade 6 reading, is the Yearbook Advisor, and my contact for anything Middle School.  It's well deserved!
Recorders in Music
Recorder To our 4th and 5th grade parents,

Welcome back and get ready because we start Recorders this week!

There is still time to purchase your child's recorder if you want your child to participate.  The cost is $6 and the checks need to be made out to Imagine Schools.  If you have one at home you can bring that one in, my only requirement is that it is a true recorder and can play the notes correctly.  If there is any student that does not want to play the recorder, a paper one will be provided so that they can at least participate in learning the basics.   Each student will be required to practice 3 times a week for at least 10 minutes each time.  They will be given a sheet to fill out every time and when they return to music class I will check to see that they are practicing.  Practice is very important because we only see each other one week out of every 3 and to be able to put on a Spring show they need the extra practice time at home.  Thank you for all your help.

Staffing Changes
TeachersProfessionsCongratulations to Jennifer Whitten (grade 1 math and science) who gave birth to Hailey Jade Whitten on December 27th at 6:30am.     The Princess weighed in at 7lbs 3oz and 20inches long.  Both mom and baby are doing wonderful!  We're pleased to announce that Mrs. Curran will be the long term substitute while Mrs. Whitten is out.

Nicole Bridgens resigned from her kindergarten position just before Winter Break.  I'm pleased to announce that Taylor Kupcik has accepted the position as the kindergarten math/science teacher.  Mrs. Moraguez will change from math/science to reading/language arts since she's taught reading in the past.

Patricia Hammerberg resigned unexpectedly the day before Winter Break began.  We were fortunate to identify an experience teacher from Fort Myers that planned to move to the area to be close to her grandchild that arrives this spring.  Joanne Jenuleson will begin on January 28th.  She has given her principal notice so a replacement can be found, and then will be moving to Pasco.  She's already set up the classroom, left a letter for the students, and will be in close communication with the substitute, Ms. Leah Corbett, and Aimee Williams, our instructional coach that will assist with reading instruction in the interim.

Thank you to those that participated in the interviews during your vacation.  It's much appreciated, and I know the parents and students will be pleased with the exceptional talent that joined the Imagine Family.
Family Fun Night
FamilyFunNight
Mark your calendars! January 25th is Imagine Land O Lakes' Family Fun Night. Join us for a family movie, free popcorn, games and more. Tickets will be on sale soon. Look for next week's newsletter for more details.  This event is organized by the Imagine Character Committee that is comprised of staff and parents.
Positively Tampa Bay
AngelTree
Imagine School at Land o' Lakes was featured on Positively Tampa Bay for our participation with the Salvation Army Angel Tree through ABC Actions News. Mrs. Denson and Mrs. Brush chaperoned a group of students to the news station where they were given a tour by Meredyth Censullo, who helped facilitate this opportunity. They enjoyed this special chance to talk to Lizette Campos about all our generous and students and families. This was our fourth year participating in this wonderful program. Each year we have added to the amount of Angels we adopted. This year we donated 14 bicycles and over 35 bags of clothes and toys for needy children! We started off with 25 Angels, added 5 more (thanks to the Baker-Waizenhofer family and our speech therapist, Mrs. Erica Amerson) and then 20 more Angels were requested through Jenny Harrison for Walker Ford! Thank you to Geo Slay, Nathan Ax, Matt Boyette, and Kamy Shorey for loading up all our donations. A special thank you goes out to Mrs. Slay, Nikolas Brush, Dominic and Dewy Slay for helping to deliver everything! Thank you for all your donations Imagine families. What a great way to show citizenship, caring, and generosity! Here is a link to our video if you missed it.
