Dragon Happenings

Dear Imagine Families,

FallFestival

The highlight of this upcoming week was the scheduled visit of our founders, Dennis and Eileen Bakke.  Due to Hurricane Sandy, they had to cancel their visit, but will reschedule in the near future.  They spent last week in Florida, but returned safely to Virginia before the airports closed..

The Student Council is sponsoring a Middle School Spirit Week for the middle school students. You may see some odd attire, but it's all part of the fun.

This week the students will visit the Book Fair, participate in a mock election, strut their stuff at the elementary Book Character Parade, and take home their report cards. As always, parental support is always appreciated.

Mrs. Denson is still looking for volunteers to share information about their careers on November 15th.  See her notice below for specifics.

Report Cards
BoyWithReportCard Imagine School uses the Pasco County School District's report card format, and the report cards will be distributed on Monday the 29th.

Grading students in Grades K-2 is based on students meeting the standard for the grade level. Students in grades 3-8 receive the traditional A,B,C, etc.

For our parents of students in Kindergarten-Grade 2: There are two sections of the report card-  academics and social growth/behavior.  This note is to explain how your child's progress will be reported to you.

Academic-Imagine School at Land O Lakes provides instruction based on the Common Core Standards.  These are updated standards from the former Sunshine State Standards.  The Kindergarten-Grade 2 teams have reviewed the Pasco District report cards, and have determined that a different grading scale will be used this year. Academic grades will be based on the child's progress towards meeting the grade level standards taught each term.

  • Kindergarten and Grade One- If your child is meeting the standard, the grade will be (S) for Successful.  If your child is still working towards meeting the standard, the grade will be (N) for Not Yet. These are the only grades on your child's report cards in the area of academics.
  • Grade Two- "Basically" 90% and above is considered an E for excellent, 75%-89% is considered an S or successfully meeting standards, 60%-74% is considered to be N meaning needs assistance, and finally 59% and below is considered to be U or unacceptable.  The term "basically" means that in order for a student to receive an E in any subject, they must have a high enough grade point average (90% or above) and must exercise excellent effort in all work assignments. A total overall performance is taken into account when assigning letter grades.

Social Growth and Behavior - Social growth and behavior is reported separately from academics.  The kindergarten team will again use S and N based on the social and behavioral expectations of a kindergarten or grade one child. The second grade team will use S for successful or N for needs improvement. A student's work habits, classroom behavior, classroom organization, and social behavior will be taken into account when determining his or her grade in this category.

Thank you for continued support,

The Kindergarten Team

The Grade One Team

The Second Grade Team

2012 Kids Voting Tampa Bay Mock Election

On October 29th- November 1st students will be participating in a mock election.

  • Students in K-2 will be voting for the president.
  • Students in 3-5 will be voting for the president as well as U.S. Congress.
  • Grades 6-8 will be voting for the president, U.S. Congress, and FL Legislature.

Students will be learning information on the candidates and where they stand on issues in their social studies class, however we encourage you to speak with your child about the upcoming election before they cast their ballot.

Volunteers are needed to help in the computer lab to assist students with the electronic voting process.  Please email Miss Kordalski, Laura.Kordalski@imagineschools.com if you are able to volunteer your time.

Election results will be announced in an upcoming newsletter.

Great American Teach In
HelpingChildrenLearn
The Great American Teach In is scheduled for Thursday November 15th.  This is an opportunity for you to come in and share information about your job with our students.  It gives you a chance to get students excited and give them options for their future.

The time of day and amount of time you want to come in for is all up to you and what your schedule permits.  You also have the option of sharing with the whole school (in two different presentations) or with just your child's class or team.

If this is an opportunity you'd like to take (or you know someone who would), please contact Mrs. Denson at charlotte.denson2@imagineschools.com and list the time period you are available and whether you'd like to share with the school or just a class.  Thank you in advance!
