This talk will focus on the friendship between Joyce and Svevo as well as their literary affinities and differences.
Paolo Bartoloni is Professor of Italian Studies at the National University of Ireland, Galway. Previously he taught Italian and Comparative Literature at the University of Sydney where he was founding Director of the program in International and Comparative Literary Studies.
Prof Bartoloni is ACIS Honorary Research Associate. His visit to Australia has been sponsored by the University of the Sunshine Coast

Thursday October 9, 6.30pm: "Transforming Propaganda: Roberto Rossellini's
"Un pilota ritorna", a talk in English by Prof Zygmunt Baranski
(Notre Dame University, US; University of Cambridge, UK).
Rossellini's 1942 film undercuts its apparent propagandist aims by drawing on
a wide range of cinematic genres and by introducing marked shifts and
contrasts in its structure.

La conferenza del Prof Zygmunt Baranski illustra l'educazione di Dante, la situazione culturale di Firenze alla fine del Duecento, i rapporti di Dante con Bologna, gli effetti dell'esilio e le simpatie ideologiche del poeta. Si prega di notare che l'evento sarà interamente in italiano.

nell'era digitale". A one day workshop offered to teachers of Italian in Victoria
as a special professional development. A number of guests from Italy
will be present including IcoN from the University of Pisa.
Thursday 13 November, 6.30pm: "Palace Cinema: a family passion - Antonio Zeccola racconta...". An evening with the founder of Palace Cinemas with a special screening of the ABC documentary (2007) on the Zeccola family.
Thursday 20 November,6.30pm: "Crime fiction, an Italian connection". A talk in English with Barbara Pezzotti in association with ACIS and La Trobe University.
Thursday 11 December, 6.30pm: "Festa di Natale" with live performances and traditional Italian sweets.
