December 2012 | Edition 12
Greetings!
As during most late Decembers, I have found myself in a deep reflection on the past year. I've been thinking about the organizations and individuals that we helped this year, how we could have improved our efforts, and what we'll aim to do even more of next year.
Before last Friday, that reflection was in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, thinking about the families and friends I knew who were impacted, and wanting to do as much as we could, however we could, to support them in the recovery and rebuilding process. And then Friday morning came, and a terrible sadness set in as we started to understand the magnitude of what had just unfolded in Newtown, CT.
As a mother, my heart hurts for the families who lost their beautiful angels last week, for the teachers and administrators who gave their lives protecting their students, and for all of the children who forever lost their innocence. And yet, I can still find hope in the power and goodness of community, which so often shows its strength in times of crisis.
As a business owner, I feel an even stronger calling to focus our daily efforts on helping others. As Fred Rogers so famously said, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping." I know this to be true. I see it in my daily life, and in the work that our clients are doing every day. And so in this season of giving, while we work to understand, process, and rebuild from disasters of all kinds, I find comfort in the helpers, and in all of the good around us each day.
Wishing you peace this holiday season, and always.
