Double Your Donation Now Until the End of August
SOCM's Board of Directors has a challenge for you - help us reach $1,200 by the end of August and your gift will count twice!

The Board has received pledges to the tune of $1,200 to match gifts made by members in August. We have just over 3 weeks to meet this goal.
So for now until August 31st, your donation will be matched, dollar for dollar, up to $1,200!
So please consider giving a gift today when you can double the impact. Please consider giving an extra $5 or $10 when it can count twice.
SOCM does not exist without the support of our members and friends. Thank you.

TDEC Releases Official "Impaired Waters" List
The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) has developed a draft 2014 list of impaired waters in Tennessee. Is something missing?
Comments on the list are being accepted until August 29th. After the comment period, TDEC will prepare a proposed final version which will then be submitted to the Environmental Protection Agency for approval.

Alliance for Appalachia Launches "Our Water, Our Future" with trip to Washington, DC
Earlier this year 300,000 gallons of a toxic coal-processing chemical called MCHM spilled into the Elk River in Southern West Virginia. Only weeks later, thousands of gallons of slurry leaked into a Virginia waterway, flowing into neighboring North Carolina. These events were followed by yet another spill in West Virginia's Kanawha County. Though some of these disastrous and dangerous spills made national news, these events are hardly unprecedented for our region.
Please join Appalachian leaders to take action on September 8th-9th, to get the safe water Appalachia needs from Washington, DC for Our Water and Our Future.
This year, with several key water rule-makings slated in Washington DC, we are seeking support from our long-standing partners to raise the stakes and ensure that our communities are heard during this critical window.
Click here to register. If you would like to coordinate travel with other Tennesseans, please email Alyssa at alyssa@socm.org.
