Tell TVA NOT to Invest in Dirty, Old Energy

TVA is proposing at least $1.1 billion in spending to keep one of the dirtiest and oldest power plants in Tennessee running. The 53-year-old Gallatin power plant is one of the oldest and dirtiest in the TVA fleet of power plants, evident by the fact that it takes $1.1 billion dollars to keep it online!

Tell TVA not to spend billions to keep the 53-year-old Gallatin Fossil Plant operational. TVA should look at opportunities for energy efficiency projects instead of investing in old power plants, which would not work as well to meet future energy needs.

From 2009 to 2011, TVA doubled their energy efficiency savings, while their counterparts in the Carolinas increased their savings ten-fold!

Comments regarding the investment are due November 30th. Click here for the Environmental report and here to submit a comment online. You can also send written comments to:

Roaring River Chapter Hosts Annual Wine Tasting FUN-Raiser on Saturday, December 1st

RR Wine Tasting1

Is it that time of the year again? The Roaring River Chapter will be hosting its annual Wine Tasting FUN-Raiser on Saturday, December 1st, 5-8pm CT, at ART al a carte Gallery in downtown Cookeville. This beautiful art gallery, which features works from over 40 local artists, served as a wonderful venue for last year's event.

The Wine Tasting FUN-Raiser is a great opportunity to celebrate SOCM's work in 2012, while enjoying the company of friends and family. It's also a good time to renew your dues for 2013. If you're interested in attending, contact Roaring River Chapter Chair Brian Paddock at bpaddock@twlakes.net for more information or to RSVP.

Welcome New SOCM Leaders!

At the Annual Meeting on October 20th, SOCM members voted in new Board members Kim Mays (At-Large Delegate from Knoxville) and Monica Kimball (At-Large Delegate Alternate from Chattanooga). Their elections were confirmed at the November 3rd Board Meeting, along with the appointment of Alicia Wright (Smyrna) as Board Secretary.

Throughout the past few months, SOCM Chapters and Committees have also been choosing new leaders. We are so excited to welcome this great group of members to their leadership positions.

Knoxville Board Representative: Steven Greer
Maury County Board Representative: Robert Tidwell

Knoxville Chapter Chair: Daniel Snyder

E3 Committee Chair: Ann League

If you are interested in serving in a leadership position in SOCM, we would love to have you! Please contact the appropriate organizer or call the Knoxville office at 865-249-7488 for more information about how you can become involved. Each chapter has several offices ranging from Chapter Secretary to Fundraising Chair.
