TVA is proposing $1.2 billion in spending to keep one of the dirtiest and oldest power plants in Tennessee open. Last week TVA released their draft environmental assessment detailing the impact of this $1.2 billion dollar investment and gave the public only 30 days to comment on this 206 page technical report. In addition to only limiting the comment period to 30 days, TVA is not going to provide a public hearing to allow for direct public input. Tell TVA this is not enough time to adequately comment and request public hearings to allow for direct public input.
TVA is currently presented with a unique opportunity to invest in clean energy and energy efficiency instead of trying to keep old and dirty power plants in operation. If the public does not speak up and request a longer comment period and public hearing, don't expect TVA to voluntary extend the public participation process.
Tell TVA we want investments in energy efficiency, not dirty energy.
In your comments, be sure to address:- We need a 90-day public comment period
- For our voices to be heard, we need two public hearings
- We know that $1.2 billion can be better used for the energy and economic needs of Tennessee
- Be sure to add "GAF Draft EA" in the subject line
